Pastor says he was shot by alleged baby killer

BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Pastor Wilfredo Calix-Flores told Action News he has been afraid of returning to work at his small church on Norwich Street in Brunswick ever since he was shot in his arm during a robbery attempt there on March 11th.

Police now say the gunman who demanded a cell phone and wallet from the pastor was the alleged Brunswick baby killer, De'marquis Elkins.

According to the indictment for murder filed Wednesday against Elkins, the 17-year-old shot the pastor in a robbery attempt 10 days before killing baby Antonio Santiago while trying to rob the child's mother.

"We're comfortable now 6 days into it that the location of the incident and the victim were random," said Chief Matt Doering of the Glynn Co. Police Department.

Dominique Lang, 14, is charged with murder along with Elkins.

The 15 count indictment also charges Elkins' mother and aunt with lying to police about his whereabouts.

Police say a nearby salt water pond is where investigators found the alleged murder weapon, a .22 caliber revolver allegedly thrown into the water by the suspect's sister and mother.

Karimah Elkins, the murder suspect's mother, is also being charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. She was convicted of shoplifting in 2008.

Pastor Calix-Flores tells Action News he's now praying De'marquis Elkins and his family seek forgiveness from God.

I suppose there will be some folks who'll try to blame this other crime on the mother of the baby too.

It’s too bad that the pastor didn’t conceal carry and give the thug a “double tap” during the earlier attempted robbery. Baby Antonio would be alive today if that had happened.

Here is the 8 page 15 Count indictment:

Now they’ve got his sister now too.

4 members from the Elkins family: Elkins himself, his sister, his mother, his aunt — all indicted.

No more alabis left. The breakfast club crime family has been busted.

This family is a one-stop criminal enterprise. The momma tells the police that her baby couldn’t have done it because he was with her from 8 to 11 in the morning. The problem is that she was getting out of jail at 10:30 that morning:

“According to an arrest warrant, Karimah Elkins told officers she was with her son between 8 and 11 a.m. on Goodyear Avenue when she was actually being detained at the Glynn County Detention Center at that time. She was released around 10:30 a.m.”

Yes, I agree. For many reasons, churches need higher security today. And because of their unique status, they need not be “gun free zones.”

Churches all over America are quietly arming themselves. We had a blurb in our bulletin a few weeks back asking for people with military or law enforcement experience to volunteer with our church security. These guys roam our halls at all hours, and to those who don’t know, they look just like congregants doing their church business.

I also have personal knowledge about another youth pastor who has been asked to train and apply for a CCW license.

Its been said many times that one act of self defense that kills the criminal reduces the crime rate.

Hang those two perps and imprison the other two for life. They're all complicit.

I noticed CNN, which had been covering it heavily up to yesterday, has pretty much dropped this story.

“... who’ll try to blame this crime on the mother of the baby..”

Well.. maybe the Mother hired the criminals to shoot the pastor first so when she put a hit out on her own child... it didn’t look suspicious. /s

Give this public defender Gough enough time and he will be alleging that too.

Kill a baby, shoot its mother and shoot a pastor. If this doesn’t send him straight to Hell, I don’t know what would.

You can’t fault people for having low intelligence. That’s the hand they were dealt. You can fault them for criminal and evil behavior though.

De'marquis

Don't you just love it . . . they can't even read, write, or do 'rithmetic, but they can make up the damned dumbest first names that socially tattoo their kids forever as losers.
