The Palm Beach man's cringe-inducing maneuver was apparently an attempt to shield his assets from the family of Scott Wilson, the 23-year-old that Goodman killed in a drunken car accident.

This man's ONLY sin is that he loves his girlfriend too much!
Good to see a judge getting something like this exactly right. Nice work judge!
If he adopted her, he couldn’t screw her anymore. It’d be incest, wouldn’t it?
He will have better luck in these “transformed” times adopting his 42 year old boyfried
This man’s real sin is he wants to protect his assets from the death (he caused) of a 23 year old.
If there are no standards ... well, there are no standards.
Want to block estate taxes? Marry your children.
Adopting your girlfriend? If there is an economic/tax incentive to do so, people will try it.
Upon what grounds could any court block it? Once they approve homosexual marriage, the polygamy angle is the next clear area -- but these other areas become equally as valid.
Incest is only illegal between blood relatives.
Ask Woody Allen
He married his daughter.
No, he did not. Sun Yi was the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow and Andre Previn. Farrow and Allen never married, and never lived together. Scummy? To be sure. Incest (even at the "adopted" level)? No.
As for the drunk driving scumbag who killed a 23 year old, way to keep your eye on the ball, Free Republic!
Thanks for rescuing the central point of my post, ClearCase.
The legal arguments in the California Prop 8 case can be applied directly to this guy's case.
Look for marriage consortiums to begin once enough states and the feds open marriage up to homosexuals on equal protection grounds.
If equal protection can be used (wrongly) to justify gay marriage, it can be used to grant marriage rights and privileges and responsibilities to any contracting parties.
If my marriage compels, say, my health insurance company to give me benefits, I will extend my marriage to my adult children, cousins, friends, and thousands of strangers willing to pay me a few bucks to enjoy my insurance coverage.
