A landslide on Whidbey Island in Washington state pushed one home 200 feet out into the water and forced the evacuation of about 20 people, officials said.
Early Wednesday morning a 1,000-foot-wide section of a cliff on the island fell away, blocking the beach-side road below, The Seattle Times reported.
Police evacuated about a dozen people from homes below the cliff by boat because of the road blockage, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported.

We must be careful about drawing conclusions about disasters and society....I realize that. But judgement, I believe, WILL come to America for the deaths of innocent unborn children, celebration of sodomy, and the incredible debt we are creating....as well as our shabby treatment of Israel.
This place voted 52% to approve sodomy, too, FWIW.
Did it actually go into the sea. I saw one sitting at the bottome of the cliff mostly in tact, having rode the slump down the hill without coming off its foundation (much).
I expect things to get a lot worse. I truly believe we are living in the end times.
Whidby Island, source for one of the finest Ruby Ports in the world! Wish I could find it here in E. TN
really? Do you believe God gives people cancer also?
The tax assessor will probably double their appraisal since they now have a beach front home.
Does anyone know if this house rode down with the slide or was it located at the bottom of the hill.
Going to goole earth to see if I can find out....

The only thing we can say for certain is that He permits it. Also that through their health problems, one way or another, many people who were not yet saved, become saved. Not everyone responds to things the same way, some people, this may be what gets them to come to God and be saved.
Whidbey Island is also home to the huge Naval Air Station and there are many military families there. Maybe they love Obama but maybe not.
I have good friends on Whidbey Island and they are not drooling liberals. Your statements are idiotic.
Reading the headlines, I was hoping it was in Washington, DC and one white colored house...
It was short of halfway up the hillside and rode the earthen slide down.
North end is very conservative. South end; not so much.
Where do your friends live on Whidbey Island? I graduated from OHHS in ‘71 and my mom still lives there.
Just looking at the numbers...and I *did* qualify my statement.
See post 1 for my opinion.
Not at my house here on So. Whidbey Island. However there are a lot of Obama bumper stickers around here for sure.
I thought I saw that one at the top of the hill a few days ago; the garage was right on the edge and there was still some yard left.
I could be wrong. It’s been known to happen.
I hope you are safe. I pray for God to save His remnant.
The general theme of these comments make me think this news story should be moved to Religion. God allows cancer in order to bring more people to him? God causes landslides in left-leaning locales? A mudslide on an island after weather events caused a weakening of the foundation is proof that we are living in the End-Time (v.97,597)?
But since this ISNT in religion, Im free to say that I think those ideas are wrong and borderline insane.
Or, it could be that folks built their homes to close to the edge of a cliff that has been eroding since the very day that the island came into existence.
Further, these homes were built on a planet that has been changing with each passing hour from the beginning of time.
God doesn’t need to toss houses over a cliff, mankind it doing a great job at killing itself.
I live in a mostly red county, about 60 miles to the west of Whidbey Island. I estimate that within the next few weeks, I will be bringing out my riding lawnmower for the season. If that mower has a dead battery, I will now know that it’s because of the libs that infest my state.
BTW, for all we know, those homes were owned by conservatives.
Thanks. I take it you both live in Seattle. Nice place. Not sure I could handle the rain though.
At least they are on the opposite side of the island.
Home of the world famous Penn Cove mussels.
Reinforcements have arrived. Me thinks you are about to get flammed. But, being the stand up FReeper that I am, I agree with you. This landslide is not a sign of the end of time, except of course for somes houses.
Coupe ills is the second oldest city in Washington .
Didn’t know there was earth movement insurance for property, but a friend of mine in Oak Harbor sells it at his agency.
yeah, look, I qualified my statement that CARE must be taken. I spend lots of time in the pro-Obama state of Florida...I don’t doubt we too will have problems...
My point is that God does judge all men—and America is way overdue for her deification of sex, the sacrament of which is abortion and now the celebration of sodomy...the moral decay we are facing—economic AND social—is a stench. And we’re doubling down.
Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
Jesus answered, Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on themdo you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
That isn't what I said.
A) Global Warming
C) Logging and Deforestation
Wow ... I know exactly where that is ... I used to live about 2 blocks from there.
It really is a beautiful place and the fishing is outstanding
I arrived in Seattle (from Alabama) in my teens. It was a cool place then with lots to do and little crime. It’s still a pretty place but absolutely infested with nanny-state lefties.
BTW: It sprinkled this morning but the sun has come out and it is gorgeous right now. Off to play in it again while it lasts ;-)
G: Lincoln (when it’s too big to blame Bush ;-)
It honestly doesn’t rain as much as people think.
But we keep that a secret so more Californians won’t move here.
Another article from the next county over. I’ve played bridge in this exact community at the firehouse there. Amazing. Hopefully no one I know is affected.
And more reinforcements arriving. It's simply awe-inspiringly idiotic and embarassing to try to link natural disasters to some sort of punishment by a deity. This isn't the 10th century, and a lot of things that happen in the Old Testament show no evidence of actually happening in the real world of today. It's not any different than blaming the volcano eruption on not sacrificing enough virgins.
And because some locality voted for Obama by a couple of percentage points? Seriously?
And what if the guy who owned the house that fell off the cliff was a rock-ribbed Republican and Christian? Is God's aim THAT bad?
And of course nobody brings this nonsense at all when Alabama and Mississippi get hit by the largest tornado outbreak ever known.
Or that 6,000 people were drowned by a hurricane in Texas in 1900, back in the good 'ol days before legalized abortion and gay marriage.
There's no deeper meaning or message in any of this except that erosion happens and if you build your house close to the sea for the few, it might fall in. That's it.
That was not just reinforcements, you brought in the calvary. Good post
Well, you’ve been misquoted but it already hit the news cycle and now you will have to spend the rest of your days on FR trying to set the record straight.
Actually, I think we did not so much pick up on your comments as used them for a jumping point for side discussion.
Either way, God does not create natural disasters as punishment. He set it all in motion and those floods and huuricanes and whatever are just a part of what keeps it all in balance. We are just guests here.
Conversely, man is not powerful enough to wreck the place. The best we can do is muck it up for ourselves. No matter what we do, in time it repairs itself.
