North Warns of War as US Flies Nuclear Bombers Over Korea

The United States sent two nuclear-capable stealth bombers on a practice run over South Korea on Thursday, just a day after North Korea’s dictatorship warned that war could break out “at any moment.”

The military’s unusual confirmation of the training run—in which munitions were dropped on a South Korean island—was seen as a warning to Pyongyang that the United States will stand behind its ally despite increased saber-rattling from the North’s young leader Kim Jong Un. …

Tensions with the North have been rising since Pyongyang’s third nuclear test in February. Kim’s regime has warned of pre-emptive strikes at Washington and Seoul for conducting “hostile” joint military exercises and supporting new U.N. sanctions against North Korea. And Thursday’s show of strength is likely to ratchet up tensions still further. …

Initially the NK army on the ground would make headway and their artillery would pound the SK capital. They have little to no air force and I'm sure we have the anti missile shield up and running. Our Navy would push a few buttons and scuttle their navy which I'm sure they are already keeping track of. We would withdraw and allow the NK army to make a big bulge and then give them a demonstration about what modern warfare is all about. At the same time we would be taking out what little logistical support and infrastructure that exists in NK. We could not just run amok and kill them all. China won't do anything if they attack us first but we won't be dropping a nuclear weapon just downwind of China either. North Korea has reached the position that the US, China, and Russia, all wish it would just go away. None of us want to claim NK as our ally or enemy. None of us think it is worth the problems involved in dealing with it from any point of view. I think the easiest answer is for the world to stand united and tell the little fat boy to STFU or we will all stomp on him and his country.

I am always amazed by the laughable propaganda statements made by the “burning with hatred” NK loudmouths. When the SHTF, in the end all that NK really has is a lot of starving and disillusioned people. If I had to choose between living in some Islamic hellhole and NK, I would probably choose the hellhole. Their starving people would too.

I remember the Korean war quite well. Based upon those memories I can see North Korea overrunning South Korea in a manner of days-(Given an all out invasion). I can foresee thousands of G.I.’s being paraded in Pyongyang. Now, North Korea could not win a protracted war-say a month, but they sure might be able to pull off a quick one using human wave tactics.

After overrunning South Korea the current trash being allowed to govern our affairs would want to negotiate "a deal."

"Bottom line" Korea would be united under Northern rule and most significant wealth transferred North.

No offense meant to our guys who would fight like H*ll but simply would be be overwhelmed.

I guess you believe that it is still 1950 The large standing army that NK has would be decimated by our air and sea superiority in a matter of hours! The only real problem SK has is the fact that Seoul is so close to the border. They should have been moving this population center south years ago. Losses there would be significant in the early going which is what has kept SK from doing anything concrete about NK for all these years. No AMERICAN ground forces should be used to defend SK.

North Korea is easily the most pathetic country in the world... What a great distinction...

It is true that war has changed but so has America. Today, an anti-American cabal is in charge of our defense. Are our soldiers in Korea fully supplied? Is our air power in Korea sufficient in number and supplies to defeat a mass invasion? Would South Korea, justifiably fearing the resolve of an anti-american President, try to make a separate deal? What is North Korea's artillery and missile capability, especially if they hit first? How quick could North Korea's aircraft clear out any opposition ground forces using a massive air attack followed up with a massive ground invasion?

I'm not very optimistic. Especially with the current crop of flakes in charge.

Were it to come to war, every Nork soldier would throw his weapon away and go running into South Korea grabbing up everything edible they could get their hands on and demand to be given asylum.

SK does not need to take on the complete NK military. As the Iraq War proved, a military only needs to speed to their adversary’s capital and decapitate the existing government.

You can bet the civilians would rejoice if Dear Leader and his apparatchik were decimated.

I am not so sure that the Norks would defect en masse, or at all. Japanese were left on remote islands to die, and they did their duty. Towards the end, some Japanese were sensible and surrendered, but no one Japanese soldier would ever admit to another that he wanted to surrender.

The Norks have been fed nothing but anti-western propaganda their entire lives, they have been taught to believe that their poverty and hunger (though the army is mostly well fed) is caused by the Americans and the South Koreans. How much of it any of them believe is open to question.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. NK would have to make a lot of promises to the soldiers to keep the plunder but I don’t know if that would even work. Once they see what prosperity freedom can bring, I find it hard to fathom that the soldiers would want to go back.

The Norks will see exactly what the Russians saw in WW2 when the entered Germany(east Prussia) and saw the vast estates of the Junkers, with livestock in the barns, small towns and cities barely touched by war and the shops with all kinds of goods they could only dream about having. After having been told that the USSR was the best country and seeing instead how the other half lived. I remember reading of a Russian soldier who saw this and said, "They have cows in the fields , larders full of food and nice soft comfortable beds with fine linen sheets and still they wanted what little we had''.
