I agree. One of my favorite scenes is Ernest Borgnine playing the Centurion.

I was especially moved by the Temptation scene. I never thought of it before, but the Temptation must have been hard. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be tempting. If Jesus found the Temptation hard then its no wonder I find resisting temptation hard.

The angels bothered me only a bit....creative license....The angels were probably strong fighters....Samson didn’t bother me either. In fact, I believe the more laughable sight is a mostly lily white cast with perfect teeth...it would have been nice to see some truly Middle Eastern complexions.

Of course the Lazarus scene was completely bogus.

Yes, the temptation was very well done....short, but effective.

Regarding the “Mary” with the disciples; throughout the 4 Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John state that there were others, in addition to the 12, who traveled with Jesus. Take for instance when Jesus sent out the 70 or 72 apostles in pairs to spread His message. Where would those additional 58/60 have come from and known His message if they had not also traveled with him. I see the “Mary” as representing these who are mentioned but often ignored as we center, as Jesus did, on the training of the 12. (of course it didn’t quite take with Judas Iscariot)

We watched it...and we joked that it could spawn a relatively successful drinking game called, “Hey That’s Not In the Bible!” (it’s a joke..I’m Irish...gimme a break...)

Having said that, it seemed to me to be (largely) a presentation of a bunch of ripping yarns. I’m sure that out of the millions who watched, more than a few were inspired to pick up the Bible and actually read it - and be spiritually enriched. It would be interesting to know if there has been an uptick in Bible sales since the series aired.

While we have enjoyed watching The Bible mini-series, but there have been some GLARING errors...

Errors designed to alter the truth...

Also effective. The actor playing Satan scared the bejeebers out of me.

If you wish to apply this injunction literally, the entire production should have been in the original languages.

**************

Revelation 22:19

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Samson is Black? So is his mother? Didn’t show who his father is so hard to tell if he went to Africa to marry an African.

Not totally impossible. The Bible says a "vast mixed company" left Egypt with the Israelites during the Exodus. While their fate is not detailed, it's pretty clear they merged into the Israelites.

The Egyptians had a great many Nubian slaves. It is certainly likely some of them took the opportunity to escape slavery.

Also, there were people we would call Black much closer to Israel than most think. Moses probably married a black woman in what is now NW Saudi, as his sister's later reaction to her appears to have some sort of racial animus involved, with God taking the opportunity to demonstrate his opinion towards racism.

And the trade in slaves was international. Not at all unlikely for a number of Africans to wind up in Israel.

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy

"This prophecy" is the Book of Revelation. That this statement occurs at the end of our Bible is pure chance based on medieval ordering of the books.

I hope that new ‘biblical’ productions don't come off like some of the 50’s and 60’s disasters.

Previous movies often blurred the facts and misrepresented the life and life style of individuals portrayed.

Lots of glitzy and overwhelming props didn't mask bad casting choices, idiotic dialogue and bad acting.

Yes, actually it’s place at the end of the bible results from an historical accident: its adoption by the various churches was the slowest.

What words of Revelation did the series take away?

Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Deuteronomy 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of GOD is pure:

He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him.

6 Add thou not unto His words,

Lest He reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Galatians 1:8 But though me, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

"This prophecy" is the Book of Revelation. That this statement occurs at the end of our Bible is pure chance based on medieval ordering of the books.

Apparently The Creator knew the hearts and minds of His children would in this flesh age always have the need to help Him 'fix' His words when they face the adversary. Moses was the first elected prophet and this warning was given long before the flesh guys came along to fix the order of His Words.

..IMO the approach of this series is the same as that which Republican party is taking--sanitize the message of anything offensive to certain groups

I suppose that this is the cinematic version of the Reader's Digest Bible

After my wife and I saw what they did with the account of Sodom and Gomorrah, we went elsewhere--we'll stick with the Book, thanks...

I was speaking about changing one word of the bible using Revelation as an example. there is also this:

Galatians 1:6-9
New King James Version (NKJV)
Only One Gospel

6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

God wrote the Bible, not man. It is not something that should be picked apart to satisfy ones opinions. Pride goeth before the fall. I am not a scholar, and I would never presume to be one, but if I was God (and I’m definately not) I would not want my book perverted in any way.
