MIAMI (AP) -- Trying to show that the economy remains a top priority, President Barack Obama promoted a plan Friday to create construction and other jobs by attracting private money to help rebuild roads, bridges and other public works projects.
Obama fleshed out the details during a visit to a Miami port that's undergoing $2 billion in upgrades paid for with government and private dollars. The quick trip was designed to show that the economy and unemployment are top priorities for a president who also is waging high-profile campaigns on immigration reform and gun control.

Hasn’t had a new idea since 2007 (at least). The old ideas didn’t work, aren’t working, won’t work — but they are all he’s got. Let’s build roads. We’ll all get rich!
Road projects — great — more jobs for illegals!
Once we build the roads ...then what?
Arrogant Communist Dictator-in-his-own-mind B. Hussein Obama is a SPENDAHOLIC.
Obamanation Counterculture File.
The only thing 0bama is good at is growing the union octopus.
...just build the Keystone already....
“...just build the Keystone already....”
His buddy Buffett wouldn’t like that because it would take away his gravy from his railroad!
Obama is an idiot.
Ah, yes, the Reeks and Wrecks of Player Piano. Kurt Vonnegut was a prophet.
Why the hell didn’t he do that in 2009 instead of pissing away a trillion dollars on Porkulus?
And Obama’s already admitted that he doesn’t have any of these “shovel-ready jobs,” after all. (What he’s not admitted is what he’s done with the several Trillion dollars of new debt he’s run up for us to pay back. Our $$$$ has just disappeared and we got none of the public works jobs — and no significant new public works infrastructures-—). Let’s not let ourselves get shafted this way again!
No problem. Make welfare payments contingent upon recipients showing to do simple things like sweeping the street and collecting trash from public spaces.
“Road projects great more jobs for illegals!
Once we build the roads ...then what?”
Put up the toll booths.
“Why the hell didnt he do that in 2009 instead of pissing away a trillion dollars on Porkulus?”
First things first. There were Big Labor Unions and other generous political donors to be rewarded. Money seemingly frittered away on “failed” green energy enterprises was not lost. It ended up in the intended pockets, IMO.
Supposedly that’s what he spent Porkulus I and Porkulus II on. But he didn’t so I guess now he wants Porkulus III.
There is a ton of road widening going on on the South loop of Beltway 8 that circles Houston. Major traffic mess. Dead stop today which gave me time to count the worker bees. 18 of them standing around, 2 actually doing something. All Mexicans. Lost of roadwork going on in Houston too. Never see anyone but Mexicans working including operating heavy machinery.
Freak’in Idiot! .Paving a road to no where. Don’t need high tech jobs. That’s in the past.
Zer0’s vision is to put people to work with pick-ax and shoveis The next works program calls for cotton-pickers and planting crops with a mule and a plow.
One more “shovel ready job” ping!
Really no one on that ping list. Everyone knows the three card monte dealer from Chicago just wants to make more union jobs.
“No problem. Make welfare payments contingent upon recipients showing to do simple things like sweeping the street and collecting trash from public spaces.”
Western Europe did that for decades, and ended up with a swollen government workforce that was unaffordable for taxpayers. Welfare has to be simply scaled back so there is motivation to get off it (and maybe “workfare” is the answer, but it can’t degenerate into another multi-million member government agency).
