Think about how bad black unemployment would be without affirmative action and government hiring. If they want a job, then come to the interview with useful skills and a decent work ethic.

“Inner city government housing, gangs, one or no parent homes, early drop out from school....for starters.”

Add high teen pregnancy, high male teen abandonment of the consequences of becoming a father, and high crime rates in general.

What Bob Johnson should be saying to the BET network subscribers, who are predominately African-American, is that if many of the conditions noted above are part of the social environment where you are, and whether you are a married couple, a single parent or just single, then you need to quit waiting for government to improve things, you need to pick up what you can of whatever is yours, and even if you are not quite sure where you will land, get out, go find someplace in the country that is healthy and bustling and get whatever kind of work you can, to start. Quit waiting for the Liberal programs in your city, county & state to rescue you - they want you right where you are, dependent on them. If those programs were really going to solve your problems then the politicians that created them could not depend on you to vote for them, so they never will.

Eye opening declaration and as usual FReepers get right to the heart of it with some excellent posts.

I wondered what his point was (having only read the excerpt) so I read through the entire piece to find the "money shot". From the article:

Johnson said the challenge was to figure out why the unemployment rate for blacks has been so high, “and if that doesn’t change, somebody’s going to have to pay— 34 million African-Americans are not going to leave this country, millions of African-Americans who don’t have jobs.” “Somebody’s going to have to pay for them. Somebody’s going to have to take care of them, and if somebody’s going to have to take care of them, that money’s got to come from somebody. And whoever’s paying for it is going to be upset about it, and they’re going to start looking for somebody to blame,” Johnson said.

So in truth Mr. Johnson knows the answer to his assertion but just does not want to accept the inconvenient truth contained in the answer. The answer is that blacks alone are responsible for their individual as well as collective fates. They are the ones at the tillers of their ship of destiny. The reason why they are doing so poorly is due to their own choices. Instead of accepting responsibility for themselves he is declaring that - once again - white America will have to pick up after them.

It wasn't conservatives that replaced one plantation with another for blacks in America - it was the democrat party. The same party that you blindly pledge allegiance. Conservative America didn't force you to make personal lifestyle choices that render you virtually unemployable, but we did warn you. All our advice to get an education, learn a skill, and act normal went unheeded. Instead you listened to the siren song of the left about "celebrating diversity" which enticed you to deface your bodies, wear garish clothes, and act in bizarre and antisocial ways. And then you wonder why the normals won't employ you.

My question to you Mr. Johnson: white America is fully ready and willing to have that discussion on race relations in America - are you?

Shadowstats.com says total unemployment is closer to 25%.

I figured it was about that.

Unemployment is a national disgrace and the biggest problem behind the gov’t budget woes.
And worse, nobody is even talking about it or suggesting solutions.

I would; I think they both have the same solution: completely destroy entire government agencies (and their regulations) -- ATF, DEA, FDA, USDA, DOE, other DOE, EPA, etc. Heck, it's be easier to list the agencies to keep: USPS, DOT, Navy/Marines, Army, IRS (though they could be severely trimmed down if we were to go to a flat-rate personal income tax with no exceptions/exemptions/credits).

It also may help if you can fill out an employment app.

"...So, yeah, they're obviously fine with 14-15% unemployment,..."

A lot of people are happy with unemployment so long as the government keeps paying them the equivalent of a $35,000 per year job to stay at home. Plus, there's the added benefit of working a couple of days a week under the table for spending money.

It's not a race issue - it's a freeloader versus producer issue, and I'm danged tired of being an enslaved producer.

True U6 data doesn’t break-out white vs black stats, at least that I can find. The U3 data is BS.

Once upon a time a guy would come to me asking for a job.

“You got tools?” I would ask him and then ask where he worked or inquire a few personal details of him. I would put him to work and if he worked out he would have a job. If he was dishonest, lazy, or incompetent I would hand him his pay and let him go.

Nowadays the lawyers and the bureaucrats have devised a process so complicated that they have given it a name: “onboarding”. It can take weeks to fully implement and once started, almost impossible to cancel. You had better be damned positive about the guy working out BEFORE you launch the process because (to all intents and purposes) you are stuck with him.

Those who have been down this road a time or two (and bear the scars to prove it) become very deliberate in the hiring process. Why stick your neck out or take a chance when the chances are that you’ll be burdened with a slacker until HE decides to sever the relationship?

And then they wonder why those selfsame guys that you described show up at your door and are turned away.

Now, this A2 table does:

Here’s the index:

Of course, it’s BLS, and I’m not sure I trust any of it.

The author assumes that these 15% want jobs. I think inner city blacks voted for the thug, slut cool factor, welfare, free phones and commiecare.

The “solution” to increasing employment for blacks will involve aggressive reverse discrimination and preferences for hispanics and blacks. “Progressives” always toss Hispanics into the mean and deadly inner city boat.

Part of the problem is cultural, what many of us would call “cultural deterioration” — but cultural, at any event.

One person in a position to help influence (or nurse) the (sick) culture towards something more positive .. is the president of Black Entertainment Television. Indeed, he is in about the best position a single individual could occupy, to influence the culture in the very community of his concern.

In short, he, himself, could be (more a) part of the solution. Take a look at the programming on BET, for starters? I wish him well..

Minimum wage legislation primarily affects minimum wage workers: teenagers, especially black teenagers. Raising the minimum wage kills jobs. It wipes out the bottom rungs in the ladder of success.

Minimum wage legislation is usually described as “raising the minimum wage.” However, upon examination what it literally does is to outlaw certain jobs. Jobs paying a certain wage were legal; now they are not.

In practice, some minimum wage workers do get a bump up in salary. They were going to get it anyway if they kept working. Now they get it sooner. However, hiring plans for the next year are revised downward. The uptick in wages is visible, but the reduction in hiring, though real, is not seen as connected to the legislation. That employment goes down in response to higher wages is simply the Law of Demand.

Another application of the Law of Demand is to unions. They use thug tactics to force higher wages. But higher wages mean less employment. The history of the UAW and the big three automakers illustrate the ways one can reduce employment of over-priced workers: subcontract, automate, lose market share, go bankrupt.”

Liberal policies kill employment. These include raising the minimum wage and supporting unions, discussed above, and also almost all “environmental” policies. These policies happen to be detrimental to the employment environment.

They had plastic combs stuck in their hair, with handles hanging out like rudders. They wore neat looking clothing, but the pants were way low and both were holding them up with one hand. The one kid says, “I can’t understand it. I’ve applied just about everywhere and nobody will hire me.”

Just to help calibrate a bit here, you can't completely blame them - it's true, they really don't know why they're turning off potential employers. Who in their lives has ever told them that you can't dress like that and expect to get a job? Not their dad, for sure. Not their family or friends, or anyone they see in their neighborhoods. And they sure wouldn't listen to you or me.

Not excusing it, mind you, just observing that the problem is bigger than baggy pants and combs in the hair. Even if you were to solve the personal appearance problems, there's probably a mountain of other issues that would need to be addressed before productive employment could be realized.

Not an issue for Obama. Work or no work, they get a check at the end of the week and they thank Lord Obama for it.

Scamming the system is “work”, and the Scammers are doing a heck of a Job.

I have a three step solution for Mr. Johnson and other who really want improvement in this area... and don't wait for the Gubmint to provide the best solution, because they want to protect their vote bank.

- Return to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Draw near to Him and learn His Word. Recognize that He is the only one who can solve problems that no one else can. This is the primary step before the next two steps.

- Return to traditional families of husband and wife in a committed life-long relationship, and raising godly children.

- Lastly, make a good education the priority of your children - not sports or hollywood or entertainment. Have them work hard at their studies like their future depended on it. Don't make fun of those nerdy, studious Asian kids. Try and emulate them.

This should be a good start.
