War veterans in New Rochelle are protesting the city's order for the so-called Gadsden flag to be taken down from its post outside the armory.

A symbol of pride for the veterans, the flag features a rattlesnake and the words, "Don't tread on me."

"That flag is the first flag of the Continetal Navy," said Peter Parente, president of the United Veterans Memorial. He helped hoist the flag up on March 21 during a ceremony to swap out the tattered American flag.

"Before the red, white and blue stripes of America, that was our American flag," he said. "That was the flag we fought under in the Revolutionary War to have the America we are today."

Not everyone agrees. Mayor Noam Bramson, a Democrat, says the flag has become political in nature after being adopted by the tea party movement. This week, he met with council members who, in an informal vote, decided to take it down Thursday.

“We are never going to win with these people like the Mayor by numbers or votes. They have infested our government and society like cockroaches.

We will be fighting these people in the streets one day.”

It’s time to go asymmetrical on these thugs.

Isn’t the Stars & Stripes a flag which is political in nature?

When the democrats decided to remove God or any reference to Our Creator at their 2012 convention. They also demonstrated they are no longer the democratic party of your father’s father. They have become a hyphenated radical unit and should be known as Demo-Coms dedicated to the establishment of a collective idealism using the device of PCP to modify behavior and shed beliefs that they believe would impede remaking their concept of the perfect utopian state. That is hardly democratic because the word democrat idealizes the individual voice.

But Rove, GOPES (GOP Elite Snobs) and RINOS lack the capacity or the understanding or the courage to point to the historic radicalization that occured at that moment and use it politically. Worse yet they are unable to forthrightly defend what the demo-coms have set out to destroy and some are even comming up with their own version of PCP . Anyone preaching PCP is going down the poisonous road to oblivion . Following a policy of PCP. Politically Correct Politics which the hyphenated democrat party, the Demo-Coms,is using is flat out wrong.Worse yet moral questions such as marriage, sexual practices, family constituency and particularly beliefs those of containing Judeo Christian tenets are being assulted and not defended. That offers a majority of voters no choice in the direction this country is to take.

PCP when used by the Demo-Coms such terms as: Afro-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, White-American, Rich-American ,Gay-American, are more than simply nouns but vehicles used to separate US from each other. Beside separating US from our money the Demo-Coms demand we become adhearents to a system without the constituional constraints on government. Thus surrendering our protections from governmental abuses and excessive bureacracy to the will of a bureaucratic collective which is no longer answerable to the average citizen.

Sadly for the Republicans God remains in Limbo

Mayor Noam Bramson is correct. The Gadsden Flag is a clear political statement opposing treason. Since the Democrats stand for treason, it's a clear anti-democrat statement. I don't have a problem with that.

The caption under the picture in the story reads:

Is the Gadsden Flag "so-called?" Isn't that the name that the flag was given throughout its history from its designer? I guess Christopher Gadsden was so-called by his parents, too.

Is this the "new journalism" where so-called journalists use the phrase "so-called" to demean anything they want, with no basis on whether something's name is historical and appropriate or not?

Only forty-five minutes from Broadway
Think of the changes it brings
For the short time it takes
What a diff'rence it makes
In the ways of the people and things

Oh, what a fine bunch of reubens
Oh, what a jay atmosphere
They have whiskers like hay
And imagine Broadway
Only forty-five minutes from here

Here's the whole story on the battle between the veterans and Mayor Noam Bramson.

From the link to the official site of the New Rochelle Armory:

October 3, 2012

The New Rochelle City Council has held an “unofficial” vote to deny the New Rochelle Veterans an opportunity to put together a development package for the New Rochelle Armory after we, along with the Save Our Armory Committee, spent 10 years working to save the building from destruction. The development rights were awarded instead to friends and donors of New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson.

We have had enough of the Mayor and his cronies mortgaging our heritage and our future for the benefit of his political career.

[snip]

Ever since becoming Mayor in 2006, Noam Bramson has claimed that development at Echo Bay was not economically viable so long as the New Rochelle Armory stood.

Bramson orchestrated a cynical policy to intentionally neglect even the most basic maintenance of the building. Under his stewardship, such as it was, a multi-million public asset has been looted and pillaged — murals destroyed, military artifacts stolen, a gaping hole in the roof opened — and left open — to allow water to pour into the people’s building with each passing storm.

Not content with simply neglecting the building, Bramson has been the loudest voice in the City demanding the absolute destruction of the Armory. In 2010, he conspired with New York State Assemblyman George Latimer in a cowardly attempt to sneak a bill through the state legislature late one Friday night that would have allowed Bramson to level the Armory the following week.

At every step of the way, New Rochelle Veterans and the Save Our Armory group, volunteers all, have worked tirelessly for more than a decade to fight Mayor Bramson’s repeated attempts to dismantle and sweep away the Armory. The more the Mayor acted to destroy the building, the harder these New Rochelle heroes fought. The harder they fought the more bitter became the Mayor’s attacks — not just on the idea of saving the Armory but in personal attacks on the individuals involved. Where hundreds of New Rochelle residents came together to fight for a principal — saving a valuable public asset with a special meaning to the community — the Mayor made the fight about his own ego and his own personal political benefit — advancing a pet project at the behest of deep-pocketed political donors who lined his pockets for many thousands of dollars.

With this history, it is not difficult to imagine the reaction of our Veterans and those that stood with them, the Save Our Armory Group and their supporters as they were forced to listen as Mayor Noam Bramson, pounding his fist on a table for emphasis, declare two weeks ago his unbridle enthusiasm for the result of “our” efforts to to save the New Rochelle Armory, crediting himself while cynically expressing his supposed appreciation for the work of the Veterans and Save Our Armory.

The Mayor’s accomplishment?

An unscheduled, unexpected 5-2 party line vote, awarding development rights the Armory to his political donors and family friends so they can acquire the building at little or no cost and convert the building into a facility for the benefit of a for-profit entity — a gaggle of North End cronies who could not have found the Armory with a GPS system, a compass and a map until the Mayor offered it to them on silver platter.

[clip]

More at the link regarding the New Rochelle Veterans plans to use the facility as a performing arts center, and the mayor's efforts to scuttle their plans and misuse scheduling authority to undermine their efforts.

The flying of the Gadsden Flag by the veterans was to protest the strong-arm tactics of the mayor to take the property away from them and hand it over to his family members and cronies for his own profit.

It's sort of like how Nancy Pelosi maneuvered to have the Navy's Treasure Island taken and given to her family's construction companies for development.

Thanks for filling in the blanks. It all makes more sense now...

Just about every morning I wake up thinking that I could not detest the demo-lib traitors any more than I do, yet they manage to find a way just about every day to ramp up my hatred of them.

I lived in New Rochelle when Jimmy Valvano was the coach at Iona..occasionally, when I had a late appt in the office, I’d stop at Frumpson’s for a beer...Valvano, Jeff Ruland, and most of the BB team were in the back...partying..the sainted Jimmy V ran a dirty program at Iona, later on also at NC State, and it cost the program...

Just another example of the Dumbocrats’ ignorance of American history - and desire to suppress knowledge of any version other than their own.
