I was recently reading Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs -- a good book.

Jobs traveled to India in the early 70s to seek enlightenment. In the mid-70s, a friend of his wanted to follow in Steve's footsteps (more or less). The guy went to India for awhile but he and his girlfriend started to run out of money. Not a problem. She stayed in India. He hitchhiked to Iran and taught English classes for a little while to earn some cash. Then he went east to meet up with her, while she went west to meet up with him. They converged in Afghanistan and then resumed their trip together.

Isaacson comments: "The world was a different place then."

My comment: Thanks Jimmy Carter! You made the big change possible!
