The 2,000-year-old Jobar Synagogue in the Syrian capital of Damascus was looted and burned to the ground.

The Syrian army loyal to President Bashar Assad and rebel forces are blaming each other for the destruction of the historic synagogue

The Jobar synagogue was built atop a cave that, according to tradition, was used by the prophet Elijah to conceal himself from prosecution. The synagogue is said to have been built by Elijah's successor, the prophet Elisha, and repaired during the first century by Eleazar ben Arach.

Yes, there are strong historical ties between Nazi Germany and radical Islam, with both ideologies promoting virulent antisemitism. Destruction and desecration of Jewish holy sites was a common occurrence in Germany and Nazi-occupied Europe in the late 1930s and early 1940s, and similar atrocious acts against Jewish property have occurred with regularity in the Arab world from then on.

So this story out of Damascus, as sad as it is, should not be considered surprising. And unlike the situation in Nazi Europe, there are few if no Jews remaining in the Arab world for the last half century or more, with the large bulk of the Jewish populations there having long ago immigrated under duress to Israel and elsewhere in the Western world. So the "silver lining" in the Arab world is that, unlike the Nazi era, the Islamists and their fellow antisemites have few opportunities to commit bodily crimes against Jewish people in their midst.

The Grand Mosque of Damascus is usurping the site of one of the oldest churches in the world. In fact, many believe that John The Baptist is buried there.

The Magnificent Church of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul was usurped by a mosque.

Who can forget the Giant Buddhas that were blown up by the Taliban?

Not To Mention The Cave of Machpela, The Tomb of Rachel, Joseph’s Tomb in Shechem (Totally Destroyed), and the TEMPLE MOUNT.

And we witnessed such a trespass right here at home with the WTC mosque controversy.

It’s what they DO.
