Rand Paul backed group attacks Republicans
POLITICO ^ | KATE NOCERA

Posted on 04/03/2013 5:55:58 AM PDT by JohnPDuncan

Sen. Rand Paul, the tea party favorite and possible 2016 presidential candidate, is raising money for a conservative gun rights group that’s targeting fellow Republicans, including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

And when one congressman complained, the message from Paul’s camp was: too bad.

The Kentucky Republican has lent his name to fundraising pitches for the National Association for Gun Rights, a group that says the National Rifle Association is too willing to compromise on gun rights.

The group has blitzed the districts of Virginia Republicans Cantor and Rep. Scott Rigell with $50,000 worth of TV and radio ads accusing them of helping President Barack Obama pass gun control legislation.

Paul’s email pitches for the group don’t mention Cantor or Rigell by name, but his activity for an organization that attacks fellow Republicans shows the potential 2016 presidential contender isn’t afraid to pick a fight inside the party.

Rand Paul will confuse people like this writer from Politico. Those types (and many of their readers) believe that it is impossible to be to the right of John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, John McCain and Mitt Romney. That such a set of ideas and beliefs could exist is beyond their ability to comprehend.

Are you kidding? Rand Paul attended the Ron Paul Tea Party on December 16th 2007 in Boston, MA as part of his presidential campaign. They were Tea Party before there was one.

I know Ron sucks. But can you explain why Rand Paul would not be a good candidate?

I’m trying to figure out who is worth my donations.

Holding RINO’s feet to the fire is a good thing. If the Quislings are so McCainish that their feet catch fire... So be it.

I stand with Rand.

Rand is too weak on foreign policy, and might be mushy on immigration. I think he’s ultimately playing a political game on immigration, but he has shown some sympathy toward a “path to citizenship” type of arrangement. All that said, he could end up being the best option, and at least he’s serving an excellent purpose in leading an insurgency in the Republican party.

Good for Paul and his people for not backing down! This is the old game, moderate or liberals are made to feel the heat by a conservative group, then conservatives are encouraged to repudiate the conservtive group to make the heat stop.

Cantor and the gang have demonstrated that they will get liberal legislation passed through the House with the help of democrats. They are not conservatives and they don’t like the people being reminded of it.

I don’t agree with every single thing Rand Paul has proposed; however, he is considered nationally near the top of “super stars” of the Tea Party WITHIN the Tea Party, and he is gold in Kentucky whether anyone likes it or not. He beat a RINO establishment Republican(Grayson) in his primary that was probably slightly to the left of McConnell.

Rigell, a second-term congressman from Virginia Beach, reelected with nearly 54 percent of the vote, this year introduced a bipartisan bill to strengthen penalties for straw purchasers — those who knowingly buy guns for people who cannot pass a background check.

A- Rating at NRA and claims he's against a national registry?

I didn't see in this Politico piece about support for a gun bill or what that bill entailed? The libs at Politico are always eager to report Republican disfuntion.

How can you possibly call yourself a Freeper if you support a candidate who is not in agreement with you on every single thing, right down to his favorite brand of beer and the way he ties his tie???

(grin....)

Rigell wants to regulate ‘straw purchases’ of firearms and he was also screaming about how much of a disaster the sequester would be. He likes big government and looks like he wants to pass some form of gun control hence the ire of hardcore gun groups.

Sorry to tell you Rand Paul is total Tea Party. Cantor is just another Republican party hack as is McCarthy. Everytime I hear that phrase “Young Guns” I could vomit. Young RINO’s is more appropriate.
