New YouTube video from the Syrian battlefield shows rebels firing the same high-powered sniper rifle favored by U.S. Navy SEALs, leaving some experts wondering who the ragtag army of insurgents might train the guns on in the future.
The British-made AS-50, accurate from a distance of 20 football fields, is made for British Special Forces and Navy SEALs.

What Difference Does It Make?!
Not good but I doubt many of them know how to shoot well enough to use it at that distance, nor will they be able to keep it operational.
Obama will probably send someone to teach them.
The sand will do wonders for these weapons.
They probably got it through a muslim nation like England.
These Syrian Rebels have ties to Hamas (among many).
How many of our Kinsmen will die because of these powerful weapons?
Not to mention loosing our technology and military edge.
2,000 yards is chump change these days.
France has about 4 times as great a proportion of Muslims, compared to the U.K. The proportion of Muslims is greater in the U.K, compared to the U.S. — but, the U.S. has a greater number of Muslims than the U.K.
A “present” from FUBO!
Owning a hammer does not make you a carpenter any more than owning a sniper rifle makes you a sniper. I own a .308 sniper rifle but would never claim to be a sniper. I do think they need to find and terminate whoever is supplying the Syrians with these rifles.
Holey crap! Now THAT’s a gun!
Good one. Couple folks got knocked right on their kiesters.
That’s one hell of a rifle! Even the ones who got knocked down clearly had a good time firing it.
For a measly $10,500 it’s yours.http://www.50bmgstore.com/50bmgcurrentprices.htm
They will be killing Americans with these at first opportunity - what the f is Obama doing?
Not having done it myself, I can only guess. But my guess would be that the endorphin rush is almost immediate.
I think you already said what he is doing.
So just how much ammo do they have for this weapon? In the end without ammo it is just a big club.
Chappaqua might be as good a starting place......
Could just as easily been recovered from a lost battle involving either our allies the Brits or our own U.S. soldiers.
So excuse me if I take offense to your unwarranted criticism of England.....They're in theater too..........
“a distance of 20 football fields,”
OK, how long is this? (Could mean the width, also.)
100 yards each? or 120 including end zones? or Canadian, or European?
Or do people think of the length of green inside a stadium? or the whole stadium.
I say the use of this term is evidence of dumbing down. Directed at folks who have been deemed, then treated as though they do not know how far 100 yards is.
I think they did in Lybia, wasn't that what Bengazi was all about? But, what does it matter...
He has no idea.
that rifle will make a average shooter a good shooter
If I were a betting man, I’d say George Galloway is wrapped up in this devilish stupidity.
2K yards is over a mile ... try the math.
i wanna eat some Huma right NOW!
It's obvious these guys never learned how to shoot anything stronger than a .22 (who leans back when he shoots a big caliber?).
It's only taxpayer money!
Hard to shoot accurately when jumping up and down shouting allah akbar.
That’s a Chinese knock-off in the video, not an AS50
Gun show loophole?
It's not your fault, the title is misleading. The AS50 is manufactured by Accuracy International which is in Britain but it's not made exclusively for the British military as the article implies.
In fact, if there were one for sale, you could buy it here:
Virtually every weapon from a BB gun to a SAM missle can ultimately be purchased by anyone who knows the proper channels and can afford it.......
It's not a super secret magic rifle or anything
Someone should alert Roger Ailes. It’s still the top story on his webpage.
It’s Obama’s new “budget war” program - sell off our weapons after every war to raise cash. We were done in Libya, so he decided to ship the leftovers to the Syrians through Benghazi. /s
Fifty caliber weapons have held the record over the years, I guess. It goes back to 1874 at Adobe Walls, Texas, where Billy Dixon fired a Sharps “Big 50” and shot an Indian off a horse at 1,538 yards (so the story goes). Much has been written about this achievement. Since ballistic tables have been developed in recent years, it’s been said that Billy would have needed to hold over the victim’s head as much as 10 or 12 feet - - never mind whatever the wind was doing. It’s always been one of my favorite shooting stories, though.
Totally happened just like he said. And even he said he wasn’t aiming AT the indian he hit. He was aiming at the -small group- of indians on sitting horseback, horses side by side together. Both sides agree it happened.
One lucky indian in the group got hit. But essentially, he was aiming at a “target” 10 or 12 feet wide, and as tall as a man on a horse.
In war, it’s not the bullet with your name on it to worry about. It’s all those with “to whom it may concern’.
Many shots have been made over 2K. Way over.
Notice that none of the longest shots were taken with the rifle in the article.
The .338 Lapua and .50BMG have traded the record back and forth in modern times.
Dixon probably did make a very long shot that day, it’s just a question of how long it really was.
Universal Background Checks would have prevented this. /s
