Pregnant Mom Arrested in New York for Unloaded Handgun in Checked Baggage
The Blaze ^ | 2 April, 2013 | Liz Klimas

A Minnesota mom six months pregnant getting ready to head home from a trip to New York with her 6-year-old daughter was arrested last week for an unloaded handgun she had in the luggage she was attempting to check.

According to WDAY, Beth Arneson Ferrizzi had no trouble transporting the gun from her departure city — Fargo, North Dakota — as she called Delta to make sure she was following the correct protocol. But she encountered problems as she tried to return home out of La Guardia International Airport, after a trip meeting her husband while he was on leave from Honduras where he is stationed for a year as master sergeant serving in the Air Force.

“They said that the firearm had to unloaded and in a hard-sided, locked case,” Ferrizzi said of Delta’s instructions. “The ammunition had to be stored separated. Not separate from the gun but in either it’s original packaging or some sort of a container that kept the bullets from being in contact with each other.”

Not sure the federal gun owners protection act will be of any help. Sounds as though she spent a few days in New York City.

It makes NYC look like idiots for their crazy law, but they will likely double down on it.

The mayor will undoubtedly demand she have a late term abortion as a show of good faith.

"that kept the bullets from being in contact with each other.”

Just like the Netherlands where unmarried people cannot be buried next to each other nor can books by authors of different sex and unmarried be put next to each other. How in G-d's name will bullets coming in contact with each other cause .... whatever ....???

People pack unloaded guns into checked bags all the time. You just have to let the airlines know what you are doing.

There is more to this story.

“It should not be normal that somebody who is attempting to do everything right
is charged with a felony crime,” Ferrizzi said.

It should not be, but it is.

There should be a travel warning issued on NYC.

Apparently she made the mistake of having a gun within the confines of New York City. She may be gulag bound.

David Gregory made a similar mistake in the totalitarian jurisdiction of DC, but he wasn't prosecuted.

I’m guessing they mean like the plastic thing with the holes in it for each round. But I always figured that was to keep them from getting dinged up rather than a safety issue. Although I suppose tossing the baggage around something might poke into the primer and set one off? Would be a 1 in a billion chance though - but in an airplane...

I flew to Alaska and had slugs for my shotgun in the packaging as they told me. I forgot about it on the way back and had tossed the original boxes. So I had them wrapped up in socks/clothing and in baggies. I asked first, and they said no go - I had to get rid of them.

So I unwrapped them all, dumped them loose in the baggie and walked out to the guy helping out by the taxi stand.

“Hey - ya want 9 12-gauge Bernake slugs?” - “SURE!!”

Back then it was no big deal. But given today’s ammo situation.....!

I don’t understand: Doesn’t the Second Amendment obtain in NYC? Isn’t NYC part of the USA?
She should stay in North Dakota and not return to NYC for trial. ND authorities would never extradite her. So she can never visit NYC again. No loss.

Not only do they xray checked baggage but they go through it to make sure your valuables find a new home.
