Fox's Eric Bolling: Firing of Rutgers tough coach 'wussification of American men'
Politico ^ | 04/04/2013 | By DYLAN BYERS

Rutgers University basketball coach Mike Rice was fired today for hitting, kicking and verbally abusing his players during practices — a decision that has met with widespread praise from many commentators in the news media, who found his actions abhorrent.

Not so Fox News co-host Eric Bolling, who said the decision to fire Rice was evidence that American culture was in decline because of the "wussification of American men."

“We’re in the midst of political correctness crushing our ability to teach kinds, to discipline kids, to disagree with people or one another or kids,” Bolling said on today's edition of "The Five." “Our culture is in decline, and this is an example of our culture in free fall — and I’m saying this because he got fired, not because of what he did.”

Elsewhere in the world of sport, and not totally unrelated, the English soccer club Sunderland is defending its decision to hire Paolo Di Canio, an Italian coach who repeatedly made fascist salutes throughout his playing career — the sort of thing that got a Greek player suspended just two weeks ago.

'wussification of American men'
It wasn't that he shoved players around. It wasn't that he threw basketballs at their heads. It wasn't that he ran them ragged on the court.
What got him fired was that he called a player a "faggot." Oooooooooooooooh, the humanity!

Knight was fired from Indiana in 2000.

“What got him fired was that he called a player a “faggot.” “

That’s simply not true.

Knight, being an Ohio State man, was a Woody Hayes disciple.
And other than a few liberal weenies, his former players here in Indiana pretty much will tell you he prepared them for success in life after college ball.

We had a Bobby Knight-autographed folding metal chair in a charity auction several years ago for a group we’re involved with. One of the guys working acquisitions at the time was just awesome.

At least he didn’t refer to their women’s team as “nappy headed hos.”

I couldn’t imagine Travis Ford (Okstate) ever calling one of his players a faggot. Of course, his team underachieves for the level of talent he has, and he’s not trying to motivate a bunch of white faggots to compete against the likes of Marcus Smart.

How is he compared to Bobby Knight?

No comparison. Bobby Knight threw a chair onto the court, not at anybody. This guy was throwing basketballs at players' heads; he was hitting and kicking them. What he did constituted assault and battery, on a serial basis. This is not a case of "oh, he hurt my feelings" or other such "wussification". There is absolutely no excuse for what this coach did to those players.

Yes, I know that. Knight was not an evil man, nor one who did no good. He was a bully though, and this was demonstrated many times on people other than his players.

Baloney!

The university knew all about the hitting, kicking and verbal abuse a long time ago. He had already been disciplined (suspended and fined) for all that and it was in the past.

Rice got fired because he is a loser with a losing record. There is no good excuse for losing.

What got him fired was going 15-16 this year.

First of all, if we go down the line of political correctness and bowing to pressure groups, which I so not dismiss out of hand, using the word c*nt would be enough even leaving out the gay slurs. Taking out all the epithets however, and this guy's nutcase behavior was still enough to get canned.

I, too, worry about the wussification of America. For example, laws requiring motorcycle helmets, bicycle helmets, seat belts, etc.

But Rice is a just a jerk & I shed no tears for him.

A man can be a strong leader and impose discipline and maintain high standards without cursing and without using physical contact in anger. The examples of coaches and parents and other leaders who have accomplished this are many. It’s one thing to grab a player to move him into proper position, but it is something else entirely to use force in anger and while appearing out of control. The man clearly has no business being a coach, in my opinion. And Rutgers should be embarrassed that it required national exposure of the videos to get them to take the appropriate action.

As much as I hate UCLA, John Wooden’s teams would wipe the floor with this guy’s best squads, and the harshest words Wooden every spoke was “goodness gracious.”

No remotely the same. Knight was intense, but did not run around doing what this guy did.

I have to call BS on this one. This coach looks like a poster boy for cruelty to animals.

If we are going to talk about these players as people who may sign multimillion dollar contracts in a couple of years, they better well be motivated by something more than intimidation.
However, in the real world, it’s follow the money. The results are important, not how the animals are trained.
It’s high time that colleges require that people who play college sports be appropriate college material and can perform academically at that level, not gang bangers that have to be driven.
