Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette drew national criticism Wednesday for remarks made at a public forum in which she said banning high-capacity in ammunition magazines would be effective in reducing gun violence because "the bullets will have been shot and there won't be any more available."
For years in Congress, DeGette has been the prime sponsor on a federal ban on high-capacity magazines.
But despite the congresswoman's claim, ammunition magazines can be reloaded with more bullets and can be reused hundreds of times.
"These are ammunition, they're bullets, so the people who have those now, they're going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high-capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won't be any more available," she said at Tuesday's forum, hosted by The Denver Post's editorial board.
DeGette spokeswoman Juliet Johnson on Wednesday said the senior congresswoman from Denver "misspoke" and then issued another erroneous statement about guns.
"The congresswoman has been working on a high-capacity assault magazine ban for years and has been deeply involved in the issue; she simply misspoke in referring to 'magazines' when she should have referred to 'clips,' which cannot be reused because they don't have a feeding mechanism," Johnson said.
Actually, clips in most guns can be reused as well.

Apparently she has a brain dead sister in kali who introduced ammo legislation and in addition “would ban the manufacture, sale or import of any device that enables a gun to fire more than 10 rounds at one time.” Goes by the name of nancy skinner and she’s from, where else, berkeley. Anybody know where we can get one of them soon to be banned 10 barreled weapons? And pre-loaded disposable “clips”. Limits the amount of ammo to less than 3000 rds except for LEO’s. And we know they are trustworthy. Think chris dorner. I think I’ll stick with my “low” powered assault weapon. You know, the fully semi auto one. What idiots.
I just watched the video - in the original comment she said “magazine clips” were effectively disposable. yes, “magazine clips.”
That this woman has a position of any authority in our country is very troubling. What makes it worse, she is a leading advocate and author of “gun control” legislation.
She doesn’t have *any* knowledge about the subject that she is trying to legislate. (or knowledge of the Constitution of the USA.)

Ha! What an idiot. Her “explanation” doesn’t make any sense either, since most every clip I’ve ever seen held 10 rounds or less! So, what “high capacity clips” was she talking about?

Maybe what she really means is, once gun control passes, the left will be free to rid society of such “undesirables” as the disabled, so he wouldn’t be around to worry about it.
