HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who four months ago broke the news to shocked parents that their children had been slaughtered in a Connecticut elementary school, signed into law Thursday sweeping new restrictions on weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines similar to the ones used by the man who gunned down 20 child and six educators in the massacre.

Alongside family members of some of the victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Malloy signed the bill hours after the General Assembly approved the measure to give the state some of the toughest gun laws in the country.

I'm sure glad. Now those law abiding citizens won't be out there invading homes and robbing people in the streets.

Stump a liberal...ask him to explain exactly how this law would have stopped Newtown.

No ‘assault weapon’....he can use a pistol.

No high capacity magazines?...Lanza had to use at least 10 magazines, and not one 6 year old child jumped him during the switch. In fact, he had free roam of the scholl until...welll...until the police came with their own guns.

Background check? Well, considering Lanza committed murder and aggravated robbery to get his gun, this probably won’t stop him.

Register magazines?!? Seriously. Lanza didn’t own any magazines.

Gun offender registry? Nope, Lanza wouldn’t have been on the list.

Eligibility certificate to buy ammo? Not a problem if you kill your mom to get ammo.

So go ahead, stump a liberal. This law was passed in the name of the dead children at Newtown. So, exactly which one of these laws would have prevented it?

BTW, I have a secret. I know how to prevent the next Newtown. Get an over-weight retired cop. Put a pitol belt, holster, and pistol on him, and sit him by the door.

At least so far it’s a state thing. If the people of CT put up with it. The whole thing was a knee-jerk reaction built on the graves of those killed. I think it would be poetic justice if Ruger, Colt, and those other arms manufactures moved out of state. Think of the loss of jobs and tax revenue. Actions do have consequences.

And just who is it that is going to be removing these legislators and governors from office when they express such total distain for the law and limitations on their power?

Connecticut is already well on the way to disarming their citizens, so the Second Amendment is soon to become a moot point, no longer able to defend adequately the rest of the Constitution.

Maybe peasants armed with pitchforks and torches will have to get the job done. But when things get to that point, it never ends well.

These people didn't murder their own children. Abortion has NOTHING to do with this.

My best friends daughter was murdered last July at the age of 21. My friend will never be the same.

My son and his wife lost their only child in a single car accident.

Both sets of parents are grieving. It's NOT about abortion. Neither are these parents grief.

Yep.

"It's just the beginning of this bill. In six months from now, it's going to get stronger and stronger," Dan Garrett said. "I think they're watching us all over the country."

Total confiscation of all privately owned firearms is their objective.

Nice map in the WSJ today. Shows states that are making their gun laws stronger, and those that are making their gun laws weaker.

Guess who’s winning?

We are.

If the NY Times published this information, the headline would be “Many States Pass New Laws on Firearms.”

More importantly think Sikorsky, Pratt & Whitney, Groton Submarine, etc. The history and heritage of Connecticut in national defense is notable. http://www.defensetech.net/New%20England%20Defense%20Study_06_20_12.pdf

My understanding is he used the Bushmaster...and bullets recovered from victims as well as dropped magazines validate that he used it. The reports state he fired 152 rounds.

And, he had two pistols with him, and he used one to kill himself.

And, there is video of the police pulling a shotgun out of the car.

Now what I don’t know, and find frustrating - how many magazines did he use. The premise of the 10 round magazine limit is that he would have had to have 16 magazines, instead of 6. Ok...but did he really only use 6? One report stated that some of the magazines were half used. So, maybe his magazine use was closer to 16 than 6. Then what? The magazine limit argument goes out of the water.

And btw, why did he drop half empty magazines? One benefit is that there is always a round in the chamber...so he can insert his next magazine without risk of some hero rushing and tackling him. So now what? Couldn’t he do this with 10 magazines, 15 magazines, 20 magazines whatever...nothing stops him from continuing on with his spree. He loses a couple of extra seconds switching things out, but so what?

And another puzzler - he killed 26 people. If for some reason he were limited by gun laws to a very limited number of 10 round magazines, say three, he’d just me more deliberate with his shots...and still kill 26 people.
