A Democrat running for Jesse Jackson Jr.'s seat in Congress attacked the idea of concealed-carry firearms by citing the victims of the Aurora theater shooting, who could not defend themselves in a gun-free zone.
Robin Kelly, candidate in the IL-02 congressional election, claimed Thursday evening that victims of 2012's Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting failed to "pull out their guns to kill the gentleman that did all the damage that he did."
Kelly, who faces Republican Paul McKinley in the April special election to replace Jackson, was speaking at her own one-person candidate forum, which she had convened rather than attend an NAACP-sponsored candidate debate with her opponent. Kelly made the controversial statement while arguing against conceal and carry rights for the residents of her district and the state of Illinois.
She told the audience, "in the movie [theater], they have conceal and carry, but nobody pulled out their guns to kill the gentleman that did all the damage that he did." [emphasis added]
However, the Cinemark theater where the shooting took place was the only one within 20 minutes of suspect James Holmes' apartment that had a policy banning guns from the premise. Victims and their families are preparing a lawsuit targeting Cinemark for allegedly failing to provide security for its patrons the night of the shooting.

And the answer to Robin Kelly would be to ban concealed carry all together. Great, Illinois you deserve it.
Perhaps the government should MANDATE concealed carry at all times and in all places. Just to be sure.
Let's see now...
1. The theater prohibits carrying.
2. Law abiding CCW holders acknowledge their prohibition and do not carry on the premises.
3. Deranged criminal who cares not a wit about the law or the prohibition brings a weapon (any weapon) in and shoots the place up.
4. CCW holders who are unarmed at the behest of the property owners cannot respond.
5. CCW holders are to blame for the shooting.
Does that about cover it?
Guns don’t kill, gun free zones kill.
once again, another dimocrat without the facts that contradict their positions
The b!tch will still win
Just what we need. Another idiot in Congress.
All of the comments here so far WOULD be on the money if we were trying to argue this point with rational honest - but wrong - people but we are not. These foaming at the mouth Democrat “gun haters” don’t have to make sense because they are talking to stupid senseless people who shout their approval at anything they THINK supports the destruction of conservatives’ rights.
. Obviously what is needed is for deranged criminals to act more responsibly.
And, as I have learned from past attempts at all too obvious sarcasm on FR without explicitly saying that my sarcastic remarks are indeed sarcastic remarks: That is a sarcastic remark.
Wish I could ‘laugh’.
But, sad, sad sad, this is an insane world.
Obviously a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
I mean, one could suppose that. Couldn't one? Which begs the question, how many people were carrying that night in the theater in Aurora? Robin Kelly MUST know. Why isn't she telling us?
Or...is this a case of Occam's Razor? Is Robin Kelly exactly as stupid as she sounds?
I thought the Aurora Theater was a gun free zone???
She has the melanen excuse.
The Nazi mayor of New York city, Bloomberg, sent this commie $2 million in campaign funds. She will represent an area of Chicago where the average IQ is 60.
How many freepers that carry concealed do you think would have been armed, even though the movie theater said it was prohibited?
If I were still carrying concealed, I would not have left my weapon in the car just because a movie theater said no. The only time I would not carry, would be if I was going to enter somewhere that would physically check or have a metal detector.
How many would simply have taken their business elsewhere?
“And, as I have learned from past attempts at all too obvious sarcasm on FR without explicitly saying that my sarcastic remarks are indeed sarcastic remarks: That is a sarcastic remark.”
Sad but true, I know what you mean.
Thinking ain’t one of his strong areas. He tried it once and it gave him a nosebleed.
If every other theatre in the area allowed ccw, anybody that routinely carries would likely routinely go to the movies elsewhere - not just to legally carry but also so as not to patronize an anti gun business.
In fact the ccw holders were prob the only people aware of the no gun policy, except of course, for a killer looking for an unarmed crowd.
The theatre and the killer both got what they wanted.
