Almost as many people signed up with the federal government's permanent worker disability program as got jobs in March, according to two sets of government data, continuing a troubling trend throughout the Obama recovery.

Last month, 81,804 workers left the workforce to join the Social Security Disability Insurance program. So far this year, nearly a quarter million workers have joined the program.

Over the past four years, 4 million left the workforce to go on disability. Even after accounting for those who dropped out of the program because of death or retirement, the ranks of the disabled have shot up more than 1.4 million under Obama.

There are two reasons for this surge in disability.

1) It is less of a stigma than receiving long-term unemployment. And, really, how many people in their late 40s/50s are losing hope that they’ll ever find meaningful employment to support themselves and their families?

2) Lawyers (associated with trial lawyers??) now all over TV hawking services to get people on to disability, which heretofore, was very, very difficult to get.

Here in Indiana, it's the same old ambulance chasers who have branched out into this new lucrative line of practice.

This makes me sick! Those of us who actually work for a living just sit back and take it . . . why? Other than the fact that we’re working and don’t have time to raise h3ll. Isn’t there some elected official in congress with the cojones to say no more to this crap and purge the slackers from the dole and let them take a job at McDonalds or loading trucks or something that is productive. And now Obammy wants to hire over 100,000 incompetents to explain Obamacare. Brilliant, just brilliant!

It also helps explain the unemployment numbers. Lots of folks dropping out and collecting disability.

Why work when you can sit around on your fat butt, watch tv, drink cheap beer, use your obama-phone and collect a check from the rest of us poor slobs who are working? Quite a deal for losers. America is doomed if enough people take that attitude....gimme...gimme...gimme.
