US Secretly Deploys B-1 Strategic Bombers, E-6 "Doomsday" Planes Near North Korea
Zerohedge.com ^ | April 5, 2013 | Tyler Durden

First the US fanfared the placement of two F-22 Raptors in the Osan airbase of South Korea. Then it demonstratively launched a B-2 stealth bomber on a training mission over a South Korean gunnery range. Then it deployed an anti-ballistic missile defense system to Guam and positioned two guided-missile destroyers in the waters near Korea. And now, courtesy of the Aviationist, we learn that the Pentagon has escalated once more in an ongoing cat and mouse game with North Korea, of who blinks first, and dispatched several B-1 ("Bone") Lancer strategic long-range bombers to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. What is different this time, however, is that unlike the previous very public and widely trumpeted reciprocal escalation steps, this particular deployment has been kept secret from the public (at least the broader public), "a fact that could be the sign that the U.S. is not only making symbolic moves (as the above mentioned ones), but it is preparing for the worst scenario: an attack on North Korea."

I thought they were welded. But of course they could be drilled and tapped.

I love journalistic secrecy. I remember 1990-91 when my son was in Saudi Arabia with the 82nd, some idiot asked at a press briefing, “What Kuwait beach are you going to land on to begin the invasion?”

"It is believed that North Korea cannot mobilize their army because of parts shortages and fuel issues."

Don't know if that's true, but I don't believe even the little fat-Un would attack anyone. While they could destroy much of Seoul with their artillary, their generals know damn well that the Western world would come down on them with a rain of fire that they couldn't possibly survive.

Even Obambi would have to take such action, whether he wants to or not. It's all posturing by the Norks to get more concessions from the US and UN.

Nothing is going to happen from the child Un. Yes, his military is faithful (mostly for survival), but they know if they attack S. Korea or anyone else, they are history. I'm actually waiting for a military coup.

I saw a video of the B-1 unloading 80plus some bombs in less than 3 seconds.....they can do some damage quick and avoid being detected, or at least move out of the way so fast to get out of danger...appears they drop quickly to ground level.

Ridgeway was a mess. He said that Korea would be the last war fought entirely without nuclear weapons. Now after 60 years of nuclear free wars it looks like Korea might still be a nuclear war after all.

You misrepresent MacArthur’s plan for ending the war, give him no credit for Inchon, and give accolades to Mr. Stalemate-not-victory Ridgeway. Shouldn’t you be over at DU?

I don’t know why they would deploy the B-1.One of our subs could smoke the whole miserable country before breakfast.

The B-1 is the USAF's JDAM truck. It can haul over 80 of the 500lb variety and each one can be GPS guided onto a different target.

I figured that given various sensor technologies (including E-8 JSTARS) we have most of the Nork artillery tubes sitting on the DMZ pointed at Seoul zeroed in. Four cells of B-1s could take out somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 (yes, that's one thousand) on the first pass.

If TSHTF in Korea, those artillery tubes are going to be the very first priority. I'd guess that there's an unstated threshold of Nork provocation were we'd go preemptive on them to significantly degrade the impact of a first and second salvo (because thanks to counterbattery fire there won't be a third) on Seoul.

"Most overrated general in US history.

Lol, too funny! The most decorated US solider in WW1, military governor of Phillippee (with Eisenhower as his aid), selected to be promoted to 6 stars and lead the US invasion of Japan. Only US general to ever hold the rank of Field Marshall (Korea). A general in WW1, and general in WW2 and a general in Korea. Three times nominated for the medal of honor. Yeah over rated my a$$. Check out MacAuthor causality rates, lowest of all senior commanders. He was one of this countrys' most brilliant generals. Oh and Truman was a jerk.

"Macarthur had said it was impossible for China to invade Korea."

And he was right, but little to he realize that Truman would send the 7th fleet to secure the Chicom flank from possible attack by Khan-Ki-Check. Truman thus freed a large chuck of the Chicom army for duty in Korea. Had Truman not secured the enemy flank the enemy would not have been able in intervene in great force in Korea.

MacAuthor “problem” was that he was old school military, “God, country, honor”. “There is no substitute for victory.” If you like fighting wars without winning them then you are fans of Trumans and Ridgeways.

I just got done reading the book "Ike's Bluff" - about how Eisenhower kept the Soviets and the Chinese guessing about whether he would be willing to launch a full nuclear strike.

Ike had the standing and resolve to sell the bluff.

Obama will turn tail when the sabers start rattling too loudly.

The Norks are testing Obama and finding him weak.
