First the US fanfared the placement of two F-22 Raptors in the Osan airbase of South Korea. Then it demonstratively launched a B-2 stealth bomber on a training mission over a South Korean gunnery range. Then it deployed an anti-ballistic missile defense system to Guam and positioned two guided-missile destroyers in the waters near Korea. And now, courtesy of the Aviationist, we learn that the Pentagon has escalated once more in an ongoing cat and mouse game with North Korea, of who blinks first, and dispatched several B-1 ("Bone") Lancer strategic long-range bombers to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. What is different this time, however, is that unlike the previous very public and widely trumpeted reciprocal escalation steps, this particular deployment has been kept secret from the public (at least the broader public), "a fact that could be the sign that the U.S. is not only making symbolic moves (as the above mentioned ones), but it is preparing for the worst scenario: an attack on North Korea."

Secretly huh? Maybe I just have a bad memory, but I don’t remember so many national security leaks out of the Bush administration. The unit responsible for events such as the Bin Laden raid should never have been leaked.
Those two shared the same kind of leadership style --grab the headlines & strut. It's not hard to imagine that if Patton had been sent to the Pacific theater, the two would've attacked each other harder than they'd have fought Japan.
Just the same mho is that Patton would not have been blindsided by China in Oct. '50 because he seemed to have anticipated Germany in Dec. '44.
I am not saying that Mcarthur did not make some mistakes...war is a very hard task to general. Maybe you should try it sometime. What you did was overstate your case by saying he said it was impossible for the Chinese to get involved, and he did not...right?

Yes, more bread-and-circuses (like Iraq) to distract attention from the destruction of our way of life. I’ve seen too many demonstrations in South Korea afainst US troops there to really care what happens in that part of the world. If the 2 Koreas annihilate each other we’ll probably gain back some of the jobs we’ve shipped over there.
That is what my take on foreign policy has been reduced to; the real salvation would be nuclear war between India and Red China. Our unemployment would be -20%...

We see that game a lot these days, usually with those that defend Obama, Clinton, Carter, etc. Whenever we bring up their malfeasance we get hit with "aw you could do better huh? huh? Look, my war experience may be very impressive to some but we both know that there's nothing I ever did that can excuse what Macarthur did. I don't want to play that game & if it's that important to you they go ahead & play with it by yourself. They say if you play with it by yourself to much it can make you blind though.
Something to note here is how we got so much more opinion on Macarthur than fact. We don't even have a consensus on how to spell his name as Microsoft says it's "Macarthur" and the Freerepublic checker wants "MacArthur". Go figure.

I did not say you are a bad guy..but you are quite presumptive..and you are the one that avoided my point that you OVERSTATED MacArthur’s error by saying that he was basically totally blid as to the Chinese situation...by saying that he said it was IMPOSSIBLE for the Chinese to get involved. You still have not shown me where he said that.

I saw a cool video of two Bones attacking a group Taliban in a mountain valley. They dropped a load on a convoy, swung around and bombed’em again, just for good measure. I could believe how maneuverable they were..
They don’t need to mobilize the whole army at the same time. Do it incrementally, starting with those at the northernmost part of the country, get them to the border first, and move those progressively south, next. It’s a much smaller footprint, and more difficult to detect.
It’s smart, anyway. That’s what I would do if I was in command.
In that Agreed Framework, North Korea was GIVEN two twin, light water nuclear reactors from the U. S. - - [since Bill Clinton designated that Agreed Framework as a 'deal'...Congress had no say in it!!] Thank you Bill & Hillary Clinton (and democrats) for fully loading up North Korea with plutonium bombs!

KEDO announced November 21, 2003 that it would suspend construction of the two light-water nuclear reactors in North Korea for one year beginning December 1. The suspension came in response to Pyongyang’s failure to meet “the conditions necessary for continuing” the project, according to the KEDO announcement.
.....North Korea reacted December 12 by announcing that it would restart the nuclear facilities governed by the Agreed Framework....the construction of the future light-water reactors was far behind schedule. The first reactor was initially slated for completion in 2003 but was not likely to be operational until 2008 at the earliest." (which brings us now to today, 3/31/2013)

Deploying the B-1 in response to NK provocations while at the same time cancelling a missile test to lessen tensions with NK. . . talk about mixed signals.

A flight of four (or two) per tanker would be usual.
The aircraft fly in “formation” trailing the tanker and close to re-fuel when necessary, and when done re-fueling, they drop back to trail position.
You don’t fly in the contact position unless you are re-fueling and you don’t fly in close formation for long periods of time.

This is actually a HUGE victory for North Korea. By bluster they got the USA to CANCEL a missile test. No other nation has ever been able to do that.
A tremendous show of weakness. Valarie Jarret had a hand in this. A terrible defeat for the US.
Too bad Obama wouldn’t let them carry any bombs.
