The United States and Japan on Friday announced plans for basing troops in Okinawa that will result in Marines from there being moved to Hawaii and Guam.
...
Under the plan, the United States will consolidate our forces over time and reduce our impact on the most populated parts of Okinawa, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said in a statement. Together, our plan calls for the immediate return upon the completion of certain necessary procedures of certain facilities and areas on Okinawa.

Three of the best years of my life were spent on Okinawa as an Army brat in the mid-sixties. This comes as sad news to me.

Brave Sir ‘Bama ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir ‘Bama turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir ‘Bama!

This has been in the works for years. It will continue. Japan is quietly, but persistently pushing to downsize the US Forces footprint here.

So much of what was the America of our youths is being jettisoned by the current Regime. I spent two years as a military dependent in Taiwan when my Dad was stationed there - 1963-65, In 1969 I was with the 5th Marines in 'Nam - medevacked out in late June to USNH Yokosuka. On my way back to 'Nam, I went through transit at Camp Butler on Oki - an interesting couple of days. Never saw anything of the island itself.
It's a damned shame that, after almost seventy years of standing watch there, and after all the sacrifices made and brave acts performed by our Brothers there in 1945, that we are abandoning our post there.
These ill-begotten bastards in charge now are beneath our contempt!

We had an exchange student from Okinawa. I think she was ok with the US presence there. Okinawa is considered sort of different from the rest of Japan, not as truly Japanese, so they get looked down on a bit. But they have their own interesting heritage and yummy food.
My dad was a reservist called up to active duty during the Korean War. He was sent to Okinawa to build stuff (Civil Engineering Corps officer). I wonder if his base housing and such is still standing.

Sad. I did a tour there a long time ago.
Not really a surprise though. A lot of Americans act like real dopes there.
The younger generation of Okinawans don’t want us there.
They may reconsider that when the Chinese get even more militant the future. Same thing goes for the South Koreans and Filipinos.
They don’t want us there until something more menacing comes along.

Everything coming out of the White Hut just keeps getting stranger and stranger And that is a worry of magnitude, given all the other strangeness we've seen come out of this White House over the last four years.
Freepers have made some dire predictions about Obama since he came to office. Many of them have sounded like paranoid delusions, but with each passing month, you can actually see those predictions coming more and more into fruition.
At the end of the day, you have to conclude that he is, and is doing everything that the Freeper community has said about him. The only thing you can do is to take whatever preparative measures you can, and face what's likely coming.
It won't be pretty, but I'm convinced that we'll come through the other side with a restored constitutional republic that respects and honors the principles and traditions our nation was founded upon.

Thanks for the kind words, Brother!
Camp Butler was a real trip. I went to the 45 Club the first afternoon I was there and got totally faced. I journeyed over to the dining room and ordered a steak dinner. I cut my steak with such a vigorous stroke that I fell out of my chair. I thought I was bound for the Brig, but the Sergeant on duty came over and said "Are you okay, Doc?" and helped me back into my chair.
Semper Fi, Brothers!

So much of what was the America of our youths is being jettisoned by the current Regime. Too true, but I believe that a majority of Americans still cling to those traditions, spirit, and character, that have always defined us as a people.
We're living through a temporary period of manifest insanity being forced upon the country by a lunatic minority. It won't last. It can't last, as their business model is unworkable in the extreme. Even if they had the power to cow every American, and bend us to their will, their policies and methods of social organization would crash. In time it would bring on the very revolt which they're now instigating, but stridently ignoring.
Nature's law is on our side. In the end, we will prevail.
