Something looks fake about this. “Morman”,,,is that really how it showed on the slide? I notice Nation of Islam and Jewish Defense League are on there as well.

I wouldn’t even say hip-pocket. The Army has clearly said this is not Army material. If it were Army material, it would have been staffed, and that would have required it making its way through a review by the Chaplaincy and by JAG, either of which would have flagged the “catholic” section without even a second thought.

I would say a powerpoint buck sergeant took some sources and put together a slide.

My concern would be the brainwashing in his earlier years that prevented him from seeing the silliness of some of the groups he placed on that list.

So, it’s a cultural/media issue and not a military issue.

Maybe it's payback for the Catholic Church not coming on board to support the Obama administration's gay agenda. This could be preparation for barring anyone from serving as a military chaplain who doesn't approve of same-sex marriage and the rest of the agenda.

Since when is Islamophobia a religion? It's PC term to demean anyone who doesn't agree with the officially-approved opinions about Islam.

Why is the Muslim Brotherhood on the list? I though Obama liked the Muslim Brotherhood.

For whatever it's worth, speaking as someone who has attended a fair number of EO presentations, who has been informally involved in “vetting” some EO presentations in the past, and whose wife spoke at an EO presentation, XZin’s explanation makes sense to me.

At least some of these presentations **DO** get prepared at a local level. I know because I've seen it — though from my experience, I've seen them get prepared by senior NCOs close to retirement who have been selected because they can “speak their minds” without worrying about career reprisals, or more rarely by mid-level officers, typically captains or majors.

I've seen good presentations and bad ones. Some really good ones included a briefing by a Japanese American World War II vet who was so angry at Japan after Pearl Harbor that he ended up making the US Army his career, and a speech by a retired black senior officer, a Vietnam vet, who talked about how he was so angry with the perception that “black soldiers won't fight” during the Vietnam War that he made a point of being the toughest soldier he could be during multiple tours in Vietnam so people wouldn't be able to say bad things about “black cowards” in uniform.

And then there have been some others which were a lot worse.

Yes, there are a lot of brainwashed idiots in America and some of them join the military. But I hope one lesson that the “politically correct crowd” takes out of this incident is that when they do bad things, they have a whole audience of uniformed people watching who may sit quietly and listen politely and then get copies and distribute them.

My personal view is that I've seen far less real racism in and around military installations than in the civilian world. That's a good thing for the military — having objective standards for performance and a culture of personal and group discipline is much easier to implement in the military than in many civilian career fields.

If people can accept the principle that the only colors which matter are “red, white, and blue,” I'm fine with that.

Have you noticed that some people are not listening to you? This is happening more frequently on FR, someone who is really an expert and knows what they are talking about posts a comment that debunks some particular line of nonsense. The result is usually either an immediate ad hominem attack or they pretend that you do not exist. Most of these people never read the article, they just pounce on the headline. I fondly remember the days when we recognized folks who knew what they were talking about, read what they had to say, and learned from it. Not much of that going on these days.

They know the jig's just about up.... Too many people have caught on to who and what they really are... It's like before 'global warming' started to crash and burn - they started putting out more and more frantic warnings. Each more bizarre than the one before... and that's what's happening here.

Liberal elites are losing their grip on culture lies and they're starting to panic.

The overwhelming majority of the presentation is anti-white/Christian; the inclusion of any non-white/non-Christian group is either an afterthought, or smoke to give the impression of “balance”. It’s as if all the presenter did was download SPLC’s hard drives.

The SPLC created the concept and name for the 'vast right wing conspiracy' - a political scam for the Clinton war room - a package of lies about white middle-class Christians.

The SPLC and Clinton War room staff never had to prove the lies against middle class Christians because it was a whisper campaign. If Hillary hasn't spilled the beans prematurely that totalitarian move might have worked. It was being peddled to top cops in the country at the time (cops who were FBI trained as city contract people). I suspect the core of liberal elite thug power comes from the SPLC. A group that once had an ethical purpose but has been corrupted... Where is the Washington Post - where is FoxNews or the New York Times?

Yeah, it looks like xzins is right in his assessment. Whoever gave this briefing (certainly his supervisor) had a "come-to-Gaia" conversation with higher after this debacle.

I know because I've seen it — though from my experience, I've seen them get prepared by senior NCOs close to retirement who have been selected because they can “speak their minds” without worrying about career reprisals, or more rarely by mid-level officers, typically captains or majors.

Now that I'm up at the strategic level Army, we have dedicated people for this task of briefing and generally handling EO stuff. Seems like a GROSS waste of manpower to me, but the Army doesn't give a s**t what I think anyway. In my Infantry days, it was usually the most un-PC NCO we had who got tasked to be the company EO rep--it was practically a joke, but a joke that had to be taken seriously regardless, which made it even more head-shaking in its incongruity.

If people can accept the principle that the only colors which matter are “red, white, and blue,” I'm fine with that.

I wish that was so, but it isn't. PC has its hooks in the military (especially the Army) good and deep. It's all small groups of special interests and skin colors and (now) sexual orientations.

I once held to the idea that we were all green, but I've seen first-hand how that is NOT the case. Hell, I had a (black, female, VERY entitled) major in my ROTC program outright say that's not the case.

Then there’s Director of Terrorism Studies at the Combating Terrorism Center at the U.S. Military Academy Arie Perliger’s “Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right.” In it he includes pro-life Americans as terrorists and cites the SPLC as credible authorities.

That’s quite a bit more than a “slide”.

Extremism is a complex phenomenon; it is defined as beliefs, attitudes, feelings, actions, or strategies of a character far removed from the "ordinary." Because "ordinary" is subjective, no religious group would label itself extreme or its doctrine "extremism." However, religious extremism is not limited to any single religion, ethnic group, or region of the world; every religion has some followers that believe their beliefs, customes and traditions are the only "right way" and that all others are practicing their faith the "wrong way," seeing and believing that their faith/religion superior to all others.

Sounds like liberalism. The basic premise here is that extremists are people that think they are right and everyone else is wrong. almost all religions and political groups meet this definition. Therefore virtually all people on the planet are extremists by this definition

um... guys, calm down. The point was simply that extremists can exist in ANY group, which is a true statement.

The list as presented lists groups dedicated to extremism with two exceptions. It singles out two groups, Catholicism and Evangelical Christianity, both of which are religious groups that are not dedicated to extremism, (but they may have subgroups that are).

You don't understand that?

Don't think there are extremist evangelicals? obviously you haven't been watching the news about that church that pickets funerals.

You make my point. The list DIDN'T single out the "church that pickets funerals". It DID single out Evangelical Christianity.

And have that..."um"... stutter of yours checked out. I hear they can cure that now.

Okay?

:)

Jesus's first words as he appears to the apostles in the Gospel this weekend. "Peace be with you."

What would Jesus be saying to these people? I know he would be fighting with words rather than swords, but we always need to remember that Christ won in the end -- even though it looked like he lost as he died on the Cross.

Headline definitely one to raise the most ‘fear’.

First line says it was from a ‘Reserve Unit Briefing’, kind of like the local ‘R’ dogcatcher agreeing with ‘Global warming’ and the headline reads “Republicans accept Global Warming”.

Would expect to find this in the Washington Post rather than Washington Times.

Of course Catholics are extremists: look at the last two Popes they have elected, Benedict and Francis. Both reject modernizing Catholic faith, belief, doctrine and dogma to align it with modern revealations that Jesus was a married homosexual/bisexual male with illegitamate children. (sarc)

And Christian Evangelicals also hold those same extremist beliefs. (sarc)

Of course Islam, which kills homosexuals and females who look at a man they are not married to as adulters are just “doing their own cultural thing that modern secularists wont discriminate against.” NOT sarc

By The way, have you noticed the plethora of negative programs on the History Channel, The Learning Channel, NatGeo and others?

You know, the ones supposedly “revealing” the evil religious people, such as “Inside the Hutterites”, “Amish mafia”, “Breaking Amish”, “Cults in America”, etc?

And of course, the waves of “alternatives to the bible” series like, “Ancient Aliens”, “UFO Files”, “American Hauntings”, The Forbidden Books of the Bible”, “Celebrity Ghost Stories”, “Psychics in Law Enforcement”, “Finding Atlantis” etc etc etc.

When they finally put on a series that is actually about the Bible, the ratings go through the roof. So, IMNSHO, there is an agenda here, and it’s not money or ratings. If it were, there would be more series like the Bible and less trying to discredit it.

Just Sayin’.
