With yesterdays job report, many are trying to pretend that this is a sign that America is on its way up and out of the recession. Liberals are trying to explain that jobs were added, they somehow forget to include that thousands of people left the job market too. And we are now seeing another sign that perhaps, this Obama economy really isnt helping the American people all that much. 15% of Americans are now on food stamps! This doesnt seem like a recovery to me!
The number of Americans on food stamps this January was 1.8% higher than January 2012. The food stamp program is now the governments largest social welfare program. It was no surprise that this program grew when the economy was shrinking, but now that it is supposedly growing, why arent people moving off of assistance?
With 47.3 million Americans, or nearly 1 in every 7 people, now receiving food stamps from the government, it seems quite clear that the recovery isnt getting down the chain to everybody.
Illinois was the only state to see a double-digit year-over-year jumps in use, while Oregon, Maine, Missouri, Texas, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Idaho, North Dakota, Utah and North Carolina all posted annual drops.
Mississippi was the state with the largest share of its population relying on food stamps 22% though Washington, DC was a bit higher overall at 23%. One in five residents in Louisiana, Tennessee and George also were food-stamp recipients. Wyoming had the smallest share of its population on food stamps 7%.

More! More! We need MORE sucking at the teat.
Leechs, losers and users not worth a tinker's damn.
Given that, why should not Food Stamps be at the head of the list when it comes to cutting taxpayer money giveaways?
Bump. They are takers, pure and simple.
This is EXACTLY what Obongo wants!Everyone in America Government-Dependent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And they’re double-, triple- and quadruple-dipping.
Many baby daddies claim residence at different baby-mommas’ addresses. When transient families (who claim under different names) move, they collect at the old addresses, too.
The bureaucrats love it, because it means more work, more workers, and more power and privilege for themselves.
I’d be willing to bet that many of these people would be able to ‘come up with the money’ if their stamps were cut off...hunger is a great motivator.
the Obama road to national socialism is becoming increasingly clear
Destroyed economy = food stamps, welfare.
Due to the really poor economy, someone very close to me just lost his 6 figure job. He’s not on food stamps - yet. A lot of this is caused by Obama’s wrecking of the American economy.
We have a winnah . . . post of the day!
We were behind some woman at Walmart yesterday and she used three different sets of foodstamps.
THREE
It took about 15 minutes for her to get me to pay for all the crap she bought for her taxpayer funded spawn as she sorted through her makeup, beer and children’s toys, being careful to make sure that I, the taxpayer, rightfully paid and didn’t cost her anything- money or self respect.
In the past six months, I have yet to be behind an Amish who didn’t shamelessly use the WELFARE FOOD CARD. It burns me up to see them buying things I can’t afford to pay cash for.
Reparations. Pure and simple.
We have been enslaved by our political elite.
Two kinds of Americans: those who work for a living and those who vote for a living.
(I stole this from a FR tagline)
A local tv station here in Indianapolis got a file from the state of TANF card swipes for cash ATM withdrawals.
It was quite interesting, Vegas, Disney (CA and FL), Puerto Rico, NYC, Hawaii, etc.
The problem with voting is it only works in one direction.
Recall that the original safety nets were for the old people. Frankly we could handle that easily within our budget today and have a surplus. The problem is they layered on more “nets” until they got most of the fish in the hold. Now, just to get through school, we have safety nets. Meanwhile, before people saved or did with less because they planned for problems which could come up. Especially those who experienced the depressions. Today, the safety nets as they were called are not safety nets at all, they are alternate life style enhancements i.e. why pay for medical insurance when you can have someone else pay for it or why buy food when the government will or why save for college or go to a college you can afford when the government will underwrite the expense for wherever and whatever you care to do. When too many are in the wagon and not pulling it you get massive deficits and tax bills and a diminished desire to achieve because why should you achieve when the G is just going to give it to someone else because that is fair.
Liberals want as many on government aid as possible
