Botched ATF sting in Milwaukee ensnares brain-damaged man
Milwaukee J-S ^ | 07 apr 2013 | John Diedrich and Raquel Rutledge

“With him being slow, they knew that and they used him. He was too slow to catch on to what was going on. He was saying, ‘These are my good friends. These are my guys. They are looking out for me.’”- Willie Campbell, Chauncey Wright’s grandmother.

ATF agents running an undercover storefront in Milwaukee used a brain-damaged man with a low IQ to set up gun and drug deals, paying him in cigarettes, merchandise and money, according to federal documents obtained by the Journal Sentinel.

For more than six months, federal agents relied on Chauncey Wright to promote "Fearless Distributing" by handing out fliers as he rode his bike around town recommending the store to friends, family and strangers, according to federal prosecutors and family members.

Wright, unaware that the store was an undercover operation being run by agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, also stocked shelves with shoes, clothing, drug paraphernalia and auto parts, according to his family.

Once authorities shut down the operation, they charged the 28-year-old man with federal gun and drug counts.

"I have never heard of anything so ludicrous in my life," said Greg Thiele, who spent 30 years working for the Milwaukee Police Department including on undercover stings with federal agents, including those with the ATF. "Something is very wrong here."

Wright's IQ measures in the 50s, about half of a normal IQ, according to those familiar with him. Wright's score is classified as mildly or moderately disabled, depending on the IQ scale used.

The only big problems I have with this scenario are that using this guy could have opened him up to harm...and the fact that they charged him.A person with an IQ in the 50's cannot,IMO,be held criminally (or even morally) responsible for illegal or immoral acts.If I was the family of this guy I'd do my best to have everyone involved in having him criminally prosecuted sent to Club Fed for a good long time.Drop the charges,OTOH,and I'm not nearly as uspset.

Go ahead...flame away!

Just to refresh memories, yes, it's another aspect of that ATF operation:

"Along with the M-4 .223-caliber fully automatic rifle stolen from an agent’s vehicle was a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun and a Sig Sauer .40-caliber pistol. The M-4 and the Smith & Wesson haven’t been found, although the article says a “suspect” hid it under his bed. The suspect was questioned, “refused to talk” and was released. How does anyone know the M-4 was hidden under bed??? The suspect name was not revealed in the JSOnline article. Somewhere there’s an M-4 machine gun on the loose. Is this Fast and Furious II? Is there another victim like Brian Terry yet to report?"

ATF guns, including a machine gun, were stolen from an agent's vehicle; agents lost a ballistic shield; the storefront was burglarized of what agents said was nearly $40,000 in merchandise; agents left behind sensitive documents after they shut down the operation; and at least three of the wrong people were charged. In addition, agents damaged the building and ran up utility bills, then refused to pay the landlord and warned him against pursuing the matter.

If the government really wanted to save money, which it doesn't, they'd shutter the ATF. Not only would it save money, but the crime rate and the number of illegal weapons on the street, would likely be reduced.

I’m really surprised that the NAACP, the SPLC, Jesse Jackson, and all the rest of the race whores aren’t on the scene and protecting this black man.

I don’t care if he’s black, white, green or purple.

If this man truly has an IQ in the 50s, it is most assuredly certain the ATF manipulated him extensively. It is a blatant case of entrapment. I would dearly love to be on his jury. I’d nullify the case so fast the ATF would think they were bent over a table and buggered.

Because you “have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.” The NAACP, SPLC, and JJ know that the ATF is working to make gun ownership illegal for law-abiding white people and they don’t care about anything else.

Maybe. I just think it goes to show you that the government, the so-called race protection operatives, et al really don’t give a sh!t about their compadres. They, their manufactured plights, are just an excuse and a means to an ideological end unconnected with anything but power and control.

I believe that the man does meet the qualifications for an ambassadorship in the Odumbo administration.

This is a very interesting story, because they come down pretty hard on the ATF.

The ATF is one of the agencies that the MSM loves, because they are the federal gateway to ever nastier gun control.

Yet, here there are being severely criticised...

It is a good sign.

We should probably take this as... If the MSM has to chose between throwing the ATF or Affirmative Action under the bus, well... bye, bye ATF.

I doubt any ATF personnel knew the young man is retarded. Membership in this particular bureaucracy requires a suspension of consciousness. It is manifestly obvious they believed him to be a criminal deserving of their special brand of justice. They may have been correct. Is it possible he is the mastermind behind the breakin and theft of ATF armaments?
With this gang there is no distinction between reality and fantasy. Sarcasm is meaningless in these times.

I’m seeing your point, GSC. The guy is HIRED to work for the undercover cops. After working for sometime doing legitimate things, he is then asked to get drugs and guns for his employers???

Can anyone say , ‘Entrapment’?

Not impressed with the caliber of ATF agents here. They should have recognized early on that Wright was a small fish and his arrest and conviction did not warrant the time and expense of an undercover operation. He should have been tossed back and the entire operation should have been scrapped.

Did the ATF begin this operation under the auspices of HOPING to land a few big ones? Before committing the time and money on this effort, did they not know who they were after, or even had a releable tie-in to the wanted parties?

Undercover operations should never be undertaken on the off-chance that they might land a big one. Have a plan at the very least.
