Walt Disney Co. expected to begin layoffs (No longer the 'Happiest Place on Earth')
Los Angeles Times ^ | 04/05/2013 | Daniel Miller

The Walt Disney Co. is expected to begin layoffs in the coming weeks, with the cuts centering on the company's movie studio, a source with knowledge of the matter has confirmed.

The cuts, first reported by trade publication Variety, are said to be the result of an internal corporate review.

Layoffs are expected to affect the studio's marketing and home entertainment divisions, and possibly other areas, according to a source. Variety reported that the cuts would also be made in the production department.

It's not clear how many reductions there will be at the company. Reuters reported Thursday that cuts would be made in the studio's animation department and in Disney's consumer productions division.

A representative for Burbank-based Disney did not respond to requests for comment.

On Wednesday, Disney's recently acquired Lucasfilm Ltd. subsidiary announced that its video game unit, LucasArts, will no longer develop games. As a result, the company said there were "layoffs across the organization," though Lucasfilm did not say how many employees at San Francisco-based LucasArts would be affected.

In January, the Los Angeles Times reported that Disney's video game division had laid off 50 workers and closed an Austin, Texas, game studio.

***the value of stocks right now is about as indicative of prosperity (even recovery) as is the government's phony unemployment figures***

Here we see the image of the wisdom of those being ruled. The stock market is at all-time highs for two reasons: the Fed is pouring money into the financial markets {Quantitative Easing = Inflation} AND [with interest rates at below 1%] there is no other place to invest money with any hope of a return.

Bernanke says he plans to keep interest rates at the current low levels through 2015. I personally doubt he can accomplish this.

More than that: what will happen to the federal budget deficit when interest rates rise? At about 5% the federal budget will be consumed by debt payments and entitlements... NO food stamps, no welfare, no Defense Dept, ?and no earmarks!!

If you want to get mad at a media company, look no further than CBS. “The Big Bang Theory” is the filthiest show ever to air on network television. And their news division conspired to THROW A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION with those forged memos.

Americans could have shut down CBS with letters and phone calls to the FCC and Congress. No license to broadcast, no network. Why didn’t they? Ignorance? Laziness?

Disney isn’t perfect. But Mickey Mouse isn’t America’s enemy.

***look no further than CBS***

You may have missed the thrust of my comments; people don't spend a few years' savings to take their kids to CBS on vacation, thus leading their offspring to conclude that all CBS stands for is ok for them.

Certainly CBS is at least as scurrilous as Disney... e.g.: Dan Rather... and the election tampering of 2000 & 2004 as you alluded to. Of course they are owned by a large media corporation that uses its many media technological outlets to corrupt our children. However, they do not trade on a 60 year reputation to present themselves as 'family friendly'; they simply do not care what happens to your children.

The truth is that a huge number of American institutions have been infiltrated by Stalinist Marxists: AMA, AARP, state universities, secondary education, various media, many churches, many corporations... many more. We still look to them as 'leaders' in American values when - in reality - they are dedicated to the overthrow of all we have built on for two hundred years.

What I resent is Disney's trading on a long history and reputation of offering wholesome family entertainment. Yet they push sexual promiscuity, liberal politics, anti-family values... Do you think it is an accident that Hamas used its version of Mickey Mouse to brain wash their children towards terror? They saw how effectively it worked... Yes, Disney stepped in and stopped the practice... how would that change what I am saying?

***Americans could have shut down CBS with letters and phone calls to the FCC and Congress . . . Mickey Mouse isn’t America’s enemy***

You appear to lack depth of perception in this matter; Hamas DID NOT.

Rocket Rods, presented by Paul Pressler, the worst Disneyland president ever.

In fact, his whole Tomorrowland makeover was an epic fail.

Fans and the Company forced him out — the system worked.

BTW, Rocket Rods was an engineering failure... but the ride was very popular with fans while it lasted. I rode it — fun.

Hamas highjacking Mickey Mouse is not an indictment of Mickey Mouse; rather, it’s a tribute to its success.

If they used the Washington dollar bill portrait to push some political agenda, should we change our currency?

If Obama gets his amnesty passed for his 75 million illegals, there will be no more red states.

As for Disney, fork off.
I took my kids a long time ago way before they decided to have a “gay day” sort of event. There is no way I would subject my under 12 kids to that kind of homoporn.

Walt was a good man. Eisner and the rest of them are feral humans.

I choose where to spend my hard earned money, and right not it is not with them. It is prepping for the coming economic trainwreck brought to us by the current rulers in dc.

f them all.

sounds more like the movie studio, I think in Burbank. The park just raised prices to $95 or 92 for adults.

They got people hiring fake disabled in wheel chairs so they can jump the lines.

I think the park would self-sustain if left alone.

Don’t know about Orlando

1. Disney has a long term plan to reduce employee redundancies and costs.

2. after the crash it was acellerated.

3. notice how many are union jobs. Walt Disney never forgot the scummy unions for screwing with him in california. (hence move to fl)

4. Animation is done outside the USA and no longer needs california thanks to tech. The earth is flat.

5. ha ha

Re your prediction of an economic trainwreck, look at the bottom row on the National Debt Clock. The unfunded liability of each taxpayer is over $1 million!!!!

http://www.usdebtclock.org/

The liberals, with the help of plenty of Republicans, have taken this nation to the poor house. This is not going to end well....it will be one ugly event. But when the SHTF its going to re-orient a lot of people’s thinking.
