Walt Disney Co. expected to begin layoffs (No longer the 'Happiest Place on Earth')
Los Angeles Times ^ | 04/05/2013 | Daniel Miller

The Walt Disney Co. is expected to begin layoffs in the coming weeks, with the cuts centering on the company's movie studio, a source with knowledge of the matter has confirmed.

The cuts, first reported by trade publication Variety, are said to be the result of an internal corporate review.

Layoffs are expected to affect the studio's marketing and home entertainment divisions, and possibly other areas, according to a source. Variety reported that the cuts would also be made in the production department.

It's not clear how many reductions there will be at the company. Reuters reported Thursday that cuts would be made in the studio's animation department and in Disney's consumer productions division.

A representative for Burbank-based Disney did not respond to requests for comment.

On Wednesday, Disney's recently acquired Lucasfilm Ltd. subsidiary announced that its video game unit, LucasArts, will no longer develop games. As a result, the company said there were "layoffs across the organization," though Lucasfilm did not say how many employees at San Francisco-based LucasArts would be affected.

In January, the Los Angeles Times reported that Disney's video game division had laid off 50 workers and closed an Austin, Texas, game studio.

Most are coming from California and Austin, Texas. No biggie. Mostly liberals and especially Texas, they will have another job in no time.

Disney has survived over 75 years of economic ups and downs.

That being said, in its most recent incarnation, the venerable institution has succumbed more and more to political correctness, moral turpitude, and pandering to the left.

They have become self-appointed “change agents” for our culture and society, and then become surprised and puzzled when they go into decline.

I live within driving distance of Orlando, and have vacationed there many times, but I have yet to visit Disney.

It is sad, because Disney was a huge part of my childhood. My biggest ambition was to become a Disney Artist/Animator.
That is, until I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show and made the decision to become a Musician.

But, but....our economy is in recovery. The state run media said so. In fact, they said we’ve been in recovery since the summer of 2010. And they said the unemployment rate was down and only one half million people quit looking for work in March. Happy days are here again.

And no way layoffs can happen in propserous California. /sarc

You are right. I am NOT looking forward to the day that Texas turns blue which they predict in two Presidential cycles. We are completely screwed that day.

Are you kidding me??? Not enough people go there?? Holy cow! They don’t make enough money; now, they have to lay people off? What is this, a new fad?

Texas is a GREAT state and even though I don’t live there I always enjoyed going there on business trips. Texas really needs to keep the liberal contamination in check or it will go the way of Colorado.

Hasn’t been the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’ for YEARS! Some who worked there used to refer to it as ‘Mouschwitz’.

I agree Texas is a great state. I think Arizona will go blue before Texas but both are scarry thoughts. We need to find some blue states that will turn red and FAST! We need to get Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, New Hampshire and Ohio to stop being so damn bipolar.

The Californication of Texas.

Elizabeth Birch, homosexual activist and executive director of the Human Rights Campaign, told the Aspen Human Rights Summit II in Colorado that she said to Michael Eisner, 30% of your employees are gay, and he said, Youre wrong, Elizabeth. Its 40%. John Dreyer of Disneys Corporate Communications office has officially denied the veracity of Birchs quote, but Robert L.Williams, president of Disneys homosexual employee group, agreed with the estimate.

Seems a lot of the homo loving businesses are experiencing hard financial times for some reason lately. Maybe jumping on the gay bandwagon for profit offended a lot of the 97 % non-gays (though the gay percentile may be higher than 3% now that they have been so actively promoting their lifestyle and “converting” young children into gays via the school systems.
We all know part of this bs is really about population control.

Notice that in the entire article there's not a single reason given for the big layoff other than it's a result of an "internal review" by Disney bigwigs.

Notice how the Disney corporation and the sycophant media are still covering for the marxist Obama by not fingering him as the ultimate cause of rampant unemployment, layoffs, cutbacks and business failures and closures.

Notice that there's no mention that the latest polls show over 80% of the populace have NO confidence in the American economy and the direction it's heading.

Notice that people therefore are holding on to their discretionary dollars rather than spending them on the many varieties of entertainment that Disney offers....meaning that there will be more layoffs in the future as ObamaCare and other economy-wrecking socialist policies take firm root.

The above article, loaded with corporate blarney and BS plus journalistic passiveness, is a prime speciment of what passes for "news" these days.....i.e., covering-up for Obama and his merry band of bandits as the economy they direct goes to hell in a golf bag.

I’m not saying they need to update Disney World, but I hear they are about to rename “Tomorrowland” to “Yesterdayland.”
