A father who was robbed while eating with his family took out his own gun and shot the suspect, Miami Police said.
It happened at about 1 p.m. Friday at the Burger King restaurant at Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 17th Street, police said.
The robber walked in, flashed his gun to the family, demanded their valuables, then headed for the door, according to police.
The father, fearing for his life, took out his gun and shot the suspect in the leg as he stood outside the restaurant, police said.
The suspect, 36-year-old Travis Harris, jumped into a getaway Ford F-150 and took off, police said.
Police said they found him and the driver, 38-year-old Ramon Smalls, a few blocks away thanks to a Good Samaritan who followed them and alerted police. The two suspects were taken into custody at a gas station at Northeast 2nd Avenue and 26th Street after they apparently ran out of fuel, police added.

Nope.
Fill your trunk with sand and check your mileage.
Weight is weight; whether it is sand or gas.
Also; the slight among of gas used to actually drive INTO the gas station does add up; and many folks will NOT turn off the engine, preferring to keep the car either warm in the winter or cool in the summer.
It really is sad that democrats in Washington D.C., Connecuct, new york, and Colorado want kids & teachers to be defeaceless against criminal nut jobs while on campus.
I am just grateful that kind of irresponsibility is not acceptable in Texas where the legislators and private citizens are taking the threat seriously:

The arming of our schools and general citizenry is going to be all the more important as foreign gangs take a strong foot hold in our state.
I never figured you for one of those.
Hangs head. :-)
They robbed someone else hours before.
Excellent analysis.
Gee, I beat Drudge posting this story! :-)
Can you imagine if you were planing a robbery to not think about filling the gas tank in the getaway car? Then again, who’d rob a family eating at a Burger King expecting a major ‘take.’

Ah, let me think about that. No. Gee, that wasn’t so hard to decide.
Like I said, these two are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. I almost feel sorry for them. Almost.
Thanks for the clarification. So a couple of robberies over a period of a few hours equals a "crime spree" in today's journalism style guide. Good to know.
