MSNBC promo: “We have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents”

Via Legal Insurrection, between this and Krystal Ball’s Socratic dialogue with a five-year-old about gay marriage, evidently it was indoctrination weekend at MSNBC. The novelty here isn’t the sentiment, it’s the candor. Hillary made this same point more digestible for the public by ladling on warm-fuzzy sauce about a “village” raising a child together. (Similarly, don’t think of huge government programs as budget-busting liabilities. They’re Christmas presents!) Harris-Perry had 30 seconds to give her version of the same point; when you’re operating within those time constraints, there may be no way to make the pitch in terms less creepy than this. I almost want to congratulate her for throwing a word as clammy as “collective” in there. It shows a certain bravado.

Here’s your counterpoint, from 2011, on whether the U.S. is “investing” enough in education. Another half-trillion or so ought to turn things around, I think. No wonder Ron Paul’s getting into home-schooling.

Update: Apologies to John Sexton. He had the Harris-Perry video yesterday and linked to the same USC post I linked to above, but I honestly didn’t see his item at Breitbart until after I posted this.

Melissa Harris-Perry was doing a “Lean Forward” spot for the network.

In it, she complained that we “haven’t had a very collective notion that these are our children” and actually uttered the words, “We have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to their communities.”

In Melissa Harris-Perry’s mind, your children are the property of the state.

That echoes Benito Mussolini’s famous quotation, “All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.”

” In Melissa Harris-Perry’s mind, your children are the property of the state.”

Exactly.

Anyone know where in the world this idea ever worked?

“We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had a private notion of children, your kid is yours and totally your responsibility.

We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children.

So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.

Once it’s everybody’s responsibility and not just the household’s we start making better investments.”

This idea has been in existence long before the birth of Christ.

One of Plato’s most famous works is called The Republic, wherein he puts forth his political philosophy.

Plato did not believe in rugged individualism. He felt that everyone needed to be part of the state and a contributing member of the state. He felt that citizens were cells within a body politic, and that the jobs and responsibilities that people held were to be determined by the state. Plato conveniently assigns classes, or more accurately castes, within which citizens will be organized. Given his chosen profession, it is not a surprise that Plato made the Philosopher class the highest on his societal totem pole. The Philosopher class will rule the state, the Warrior class will protect the state, and the Producer class will serve the state with goods and services and skills.

Plato would also have children taken away from their parents and raised in state-run foster homes supervised by the Philosopher class. He believed that the state could do a better job raising (and indoctrinating) children than could their own parents. He also believed in no private property. This applied only to the Philosopher and Warrior classes. The Producer class, the manual laborers and the workers, could keep their kids and their meager possessions, because they did not really matter in any area other than what they could contribute.

Oh, yes, Plato not only believed in community property, but also the communal sharing of wives! Plato’s “ideal” hardly sounds ideal to modern ears, yet nevertheless he remains one of the three great sages of antiquity. And just as Socrates mentored Plato, Plato in turned mentored Aristotle.

As another FReeper stated on another thread on this topic.

No one said they “belong” to their parents. But these people really believe that kids belong to the state. Parents get the bills and the state gets their minds and loyalty.

“” In Melissa Harris-Perry’s mind, your children are the property of the state.”

Makes complete sense to me because generally speaking, Black women are simply perambulating vaginas in search of a sperm donor. They welcome “the state” taking over their “production results.”

Oh wow, another one of those “you didn’t build that” moments.

But then, the government does screw us all the time.

I caught just a fragment of Rush today, and he was talking about this. I agreed with him when he said that liberals aren’t afraid anymore. They are showing who they are, because they believe they’ve set the table, and they are the majority now.

I guess we’re going to find out?

“You will not raise that”

Plato was evil.

The fact to so many Christian theologians loved him worries me.

It is difficult to watch our country being invaded by these communists when years ago, they were either imprisoned and or silenced for disloyalty to their own country. I would not be shocked if the wrath of God did not strike that building at MSNBC. It’s an evil presence there not to mention most who work there are communists who continue to spread propaganda and lies by their bosses approval.

Wonder why there’s no ammo available at walmart?

Bob Owens:
This isn’t a society stocking up on certain guns because they fear they may be banned. This is a society preparing for war.

Well you know, the government owns you now, so they assume they also own your child. They hold your life and death in their hands and there seems to be little you can do about it now.

You ever pass a stinky fart in church and pray nobody realizes that it was you?

That's how your post make me feel. It's a bit too "generally speaking" actually.
