Warships might not sail, more missile tests might be postponed, potentially provocative photos of bombers will stay under wraps: After a muscular, even aggressive early response to North Korea’s nuclear saber-rattling, the United States has shifted into a more cautious mode, eager to avoid giving Pyongyang any excuse for further escalation, officials say.
The White House, the Pentagon and the State Department “are looking very carefully” at American words and pending actions “to make sure that they can’t be misread, or that the likelihood of them being misread is low” as well as “to not give the North Koreans fodder for escalation, excuses to take action,” according to an administration official familiar with the U.S. strategy.
“There’s not a formal review going on,” and “we are not going to withhold or postpone any step that we consider necessary for the safety of the American people,” the official, who requested anonymity, told Yahoo News.
“But those things that could be not necessary? We’re giving those a closer look,” the official said. That means assessing “our ship deployments, missile tests” to make sure they don’t unnecessarily raise the temperature in the already heated standoff.
The most obvious sign of this new approach out of Washington was Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel’s decision late last week to postpone the test launch of an InterContinental Ballistic Missile that had been scheduled for Tuesday.
"We recognized that an ICBM test at this time might be misconstrued by some as suggesting that we were intending to exacerbate the current crisis with North Korea," a defense official said Monday on condition of anonymity. "We wanted to avoid that misperception or manipulation."

The Norks are loving this international attention lavished on them. As always, the U.S. allows itself to be played in this little game. The Norks know they stand no chance of winning, so they won’t advance beyond this level of posturing. Obama gets to benefit as well as he gets to appear to be in command during a “crisis”... yet again.
A real American leader would’ve downplayed this whole mess and quietly sent a communique directly to Kim: “If you launch a missile at the United States, its territories or any of its allies, rest assured the American response will bring an abrupt end to the existence of the DPRK.
Then why the heck would we do them in the first place, if they are not necessary to protect America?

No, ignoring the temper tantrums is and always has been a better strategy. China needs to take care of this problem not us. The NORKS are their red headed stepchild.
Kim Jun Buffoon wants to get American back to the bargaining table so he can get additional aid from us. They go through this pantomine every few years. Its best to disengage and let him spin out.

Am I missing something, or do the N. Koreans not need any “excuses to take action”. It seems to me that they have already committed themselves to aggression. And what will Barry & Co. do about it? Back down again, of course. My God, what will it take to finally impeach this imposter?!
All NK has to do is orchestrate a “protest over a video” and 0bama will run faster than you can say ‘Benghazi’.
Expect the 479 S Korean managers to be “expelled” tomorrow. The 4 Chinese managers will stay on with maintenance crews for the annual spring cleanup.
The 53,000 NK workers and their 100,000 family members will be quite busy doing spring planting.
The SK workers posed a major security risk for the NK Second Army Corps.
Sat photos show that all four army corps reserves mobilized for combat exercises over the past few months have turned in their weapons to their local Ministry of People’s Safety on 1, April and went back to work gathering fertilizer for spring planting.
Worker and Peasant Red Guards have to grow their own food. Sat photos show they did not carry weapons and backpacks in the fields or in the streets after 1, April as they are required when mobilized about 1, February. Now they are all carrying shovels and hoes.
When mobilized, the Guards relocate to caves and tunnels in the mountains, and now they have gone back to garrison.
Remember, the DPRK are absolute experts at incitement and propaganda. The S Koreans often deliver translations of NK statements that are not accurate.
NK statements always have a backdoor way out that lets them walk backward from hardline statements. That rarely comes through the SK translations.
Posters about self defense have been replaced with posters about the economy.
I am reminded of just before the attacks at Pearl Harbor the intelligence that Japan was about to attack. Then there was the information from the radar station in Hawaii, that spotted the air attack in time to provide warning, but the information was never properly acted upon.
So, we know that North Korea is going to conduct a nuclear missile test tomorrow and we are doing what?
