Even White House chefs could be feeling the pain of government budget cuts.

Assistant chef Sam Kass, who cooks dinner for President Barack Obama several nights a week, said Tuesday that he will be furloughed as part of across-the-board budget cuts that went into effect in March. …

If this keeps up, they’ll have to stop sending Air Force One out for pizzas more than once a week.

I am going to cry! Such a tragedy, the Asst Chef is being furloughed about 22 days a year. Well with all the Obama vacations the guy has more time off than he works already. This makes the news! The WH has to furlough the asst chef. Gee America has such a tragic state of economic times when the WH is affected by reduction of food makers.

The next news item is that the official dog walkers have to be cut back as BO will have to utilize a treadmill, because the groundskeepers had to layoff a couple of lawnmower operators and the 6 million dollars spent on the lawn upkeep has to be cut back. There is no more funds to place Scotts grass seed for the brown areas developed from BO’s peeing.

This is the perfect opportunity to ask a salient question...

Am I the only American (natural or naturalized citizen) to wonder why the "sequestration" was presumably supposed to be "across the board" cuts...
It amounted to a reduction of 3% of the proposed next budget, and it is all or mostly a reduction of proposed increases...

Yet the cuts seem to be arbitrarily applied AND first to the critical needed services which are affected way beyond 3%; and...
Some pet programs and projects which fail by any standard, are still getting increases or are unaffected at all. The welfare components of "Social Security" are the most egregious examples.

What's the official explanation?
That is a serious question. Anybody know?

I think the 2-3% is across the whole budget, but the decreases in increased spending comes out of just the discretionary part. The mandatory spending, like debt maintenance, stays fully funded.

That works out to a lot more than 2% for things that are impulse spending, like the Air Force that just grounded a substantial part of our defense. But imperative programs, like the $400,000 grant to study duck penises, are protected (I am *not* making that one up!).

And you are correct: The cuts are designed to hurt the public. Make no mistake. Obastard isn’t shy about that at all.
