Poverty Plagues Obama’s America, Press Based in Booming Cities Shrugs
The Daily Beast ^ | April 9, 2013 | Stuart Stevens, chief Romney 2012 strategist

Posted on 04/09/2013 5:14:37 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Today, 21 and a half million Americans are unemployed or underemployed—about twice as many as six years ago, according to NPR. Work-force participation, a fancy term for the number of Americans either working or looking for work, has dropped to “the lowest level since the malaise of the late 1970’s,” an era when far fewer women were working, according to MSNBC.

Yes, the unemployment rate dropped last month—but only because so many people simply gave up looking for work. The dirty little secret is that after only four weeks of not looking for a job, an unemployed worker stops being counted. So far as the jobless numbers are concerned, that person ceases to exist. But, of course, they do exist and continue to be counted in other, troubling statistics:

More than 16 million Americans have been added to the food stamps rolls since Barack Obama was first elected—a 46 percent increase and greater than the population of Ohio. More than 50 million Americans now live in poverty. That’s one in six Americans, and one in five American children.

The last president who saw poverty at this level was LBJ, and it moved him to launch the war on poverty.

An economy inflicting this much pain is a national crisis that should dominate discussion as we marshal our collective attention. Instead, we’re talking about guns and gay marriage. In a country where hunger should be a national disgrace, we spend more time talking about a skinny billionaire’s efforts to stop the fat from getting fatter....

Bread (food stamps) and circuses (obamaphones, etc.) will keep the rabble pacified. Count on it.

The proper way to conduct a “war against poverty” is to turn off the government welfare spigot, lower corporate tax rates and institute regressive taxes. What I mean by regressive is that your tax rate is reduced as you earn more money, thus rewarding success.

Well, Chairman O has just about run out of my money. The printing presses are running full tilt. Time for some riots and more flash mobs. Redistribution’s time is here ( except for J Z and Billy Gates - the white dude of this duo is giving his away and asking why we don’t do the same).

Quoting NPR and MSNBC stops me from reading the full article. But here is my take: Cities under Democrat control for decades are failing. Negros and illegal immigrants are significant portions of the population of said cities. Their schools have failed, turning out generation after generation of illiterates. They are fiscally bankrupt. Cities are rampant with crimes committed by the above. It is a major cultural problem that is leaking into the suburbs and beyond. People that live in cities have lost their compass and very few have a voice to combat the collectivism that is predominate thought of city folks that increasing require people outside of cities to finance their laziness and failures.

I urge any conservatives to move away from America cities immediately. Then we can fence them in and contain their unAmerican values while letting them rot in the filth they are so unwilling to cleanup. (That is both figuratively and literally.)

I busted out laughing when I read your response. I moved from inner city Philly to rural east Texas. It’s quite a different world.

No doubt in my mind that the regime purchased the 2012 election with entitlements.

As long as the markets let them issue 400 dollars in Baraqqi/Bernanke/Lew minibucks for every 1000 in tax receipts, the party will continue.

When it pukes, it will be ugly.

I took a wrong turn while visiting Philly about 15 years ago. Thought I was gonna die. Block after block of burned out tenements, black mobs everywhere, for miles. Scared for my family, my wife holding the map low below window height while we tried to figure out our escape. Our kids thought we were in a war zone. Now I know what to avoid in Philly. A daughter lives in Texas, and nothing there compares.

“Bread (food stamps) and circuses (obamaphones, etc.) will keep the rabble pacified. Count on it.”

Don’t count on it; people who buy $300 sneakers can’t buy them with WIC cards. There won’t be widespread revolts, but count on the rising property crimes to continue climbing.

Same thing right across the river in Camden NJ, except there aren’t mobs of anyone anymore; it is a ghost town, which is probably why they laid off their entire police force within the past year.

Ridiculous. The last president to create conditions this bad was Jimmy Carter, and it caused him to launch a war on America -- which goes on to this day. I want Jimmuh to hold on about another four years, IOW, I don't want him to die until Zero's out of office. But I don't think it will happen, we can probably expect an expensive and sickening outpouring of partisan shilling and taxpayer dollars with Zero delivering the eulogy, and Jeremiah Wright and the rest of Zero's decades-long friends looking on.

The long term chronically unemployed are being encouraged to file for Soc Sec Disability payments. Those over 50 aren’t being challenged. Those under 50 are being given minimum challenges to getting such benefits.

These Soc Sec benefits don’t have an end date.....these persons will be collecting such payments until they go on regular soc sec or die.

Meanwhile, Soc Sec—despite Harry Reid’s lies—is already running in the red.

Having a 2 year discount of 2% of Gross income NOT deducted from paychecks didn’t help one little bit.

Put less into the accounts via FICA deductions and pay more out to more people.

Worse than getting another credit card to pay of the one you cannot already pay the minimum payments on!!!
