Rick Santorum: ‘Suicidal’ to change GOP
Politico ^ | April 9, 2013 | KEVIN CIRILLI

Posted on 04/10/2013 6:35:29 PM PDT by yongin

Rick Santorum says it would be “suicidal” for the Republican Party to support same-sex marriage.

In an interview with The Des Moines Register on Monday, Santorum said that Sens. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) backing same-sex marriage is similar to the Republicans in the 1960s and 1970s who broke with the GOP and supported abortion.

“I’m sure you could go back and read stories, oh, you know, ‘The Republican Party’s going to change. This is the future.’ Obviously, that didn’t happen,” Santorum told the Register. “I think you’re going to see the same stories written now, and it’s not going to happen. The Republican Party’s not going to change on this issue. In my opinion, it would be suicidal if it did.”

Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, also said that Americans haven’t carefully thought out what legalizing same-sex marriage would mean for the country. “[It] is not a well thought-out position by the American public,” Santorum said.

The Supreme Court of the United States is expected to rule in the next few months on two same-sex marriage cases — one that determines the legality of a California ban of the issue and another about the federal Defense of Marriage Act. Santorum said that he does not think SCOTUS will legalize same-sex marriage.

I predict that the GOP has already lost the 2016 POTUS election.

The GOP needs to be MORE GOP-like, not less.

As it stands voters have to choose between Dems, and Dems light.

So they go with Dems.

Give them a GOP person to vote for, though, and that is who they will choose.

Granted there are a couple odd-ball locations where that doesn’t hold true, but we’re not going to win there anyway.

So basically it is all true.

RUN REPUBLICANS. Real Republicans. And stick with them.

I watched him on BOR’s tonight and he has as much mush in his mouth as everyone else when it comes to explaining why we should be against sodomite marriage.

I see they’ve changed their minds about canceling his speech to the Grosse Point Michigan high school. The canceled it due to his stance on gay marriage but now say the speech will go ahead but students need written parental permission to hear it.

The speech doesn’t have anything to do with marriage, its about civics, duty, responsibility etc. Pretty bad, treating it like porn.

Can you say President Clinton? It is a done deal. There isn’t a Republican or conservative independent that can beat the hag.

How is it auicidal? The GOP has screwed us over so many times, we may as well call them liberals. Go home Rick- and stay there. You gave us Arlen Specter, remember.

Pro-homosexual agenda is real tolerant, isn’t it? They want to stigmitize anyone who speaks out against the gay agenda. Churches, Boy Scouts, and traditional families on their list to re-educate.

Here’s a quick question...

Will Homosexual parents be able to sign their kids out of basic human biology classes. After all, if a child finds out that he is a product of a male & a female won’t that lead to his questioning why he has two mothers?

I know a gay guy who is called homophobic because he isn’t an activist and says gay marriage is inviting the government into his bedroom.

It doesn’t matter who you are with them, they’ll attack anyone who doesn’t toe the time or even worse, doesn’t care enough to stand with them.

Ever notice how the commies have set up a policy that WE must send a written letter to get our K-8 kids out of an inappropriate class or speech (singling them out)?

But, the opposite policy applies to a Conservative speaker or class?

How many parents would really sign their kids up to listen to homosexuals tell them how normal it all is?

Vs a Conservative speaker talking about values and liberty?

Things are pretty bad when GOP leadership falls for the media's intentionally false representation of what the typical American thinks. There is a STARK difference between what the media would have us believe Americans think, versus simply sampling Americans at random and asking them what they think.

For example, the media is relentless in attempting to make us all feel guilty for NOT approving of illegal invaders hopping our border fences, having their anchor babies in our hospitals at our expense, stealing our jobs, raping our women and molesting our children and destroying entire families on our highways then escaping back to their safe refuge in Mexico.. WOULD JUST ONE REPUBLICAN COME OUT AND SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, G-DAMNIT? Ohhhhh noooooo THAT would be racist..

Things are pretty bad when GOP leadership falls for the media's intentionally false representation of what the typical American thinks.

They've been doing it for at least a decade.

Rush Goes On the Record with Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren (Dec 2011)

The Republican Party is trying to do something in this primary that is unprecedented. They're trying to split the conservative vote and win the primary with a moderate, with Romney. It's the other way around. You consolidate your base and then you move to the center in the general. The Republican establishment has decided they don't want any part of conservatism. And this is really not new. People are surprised to hear this, but the Republican Party formative event with conservatism is Goldwater's landslide defeat. That's what they think of when they think conservative. They don't think Reagan. They think Goldwater.

They believe what the inside-the-Beltway philosophy is about conservatives. They're racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe, Southern hayseed hicks. They're pro-lifers. They're embarrassing to have to go to the convention with them. And they're just embarrassed to have those kind of people in the party. They're dumb. They're not erudite. They're not educated in Ivy League schools. We'll take their votes on election day, but we really don't want to hang around with them. We don't want anybody in Washington thinking that we're really that close to them and aligned with them. So in the process -- you know, it's a very sophisticated electorate. The Republican primary voter can sense that the Republican Party really doesn't like them, really doesn't want them, thinks that they are the route to defeat. That's the problem in a nutshell. The Republican establishment thinks that a conservative nominee is the route to defeat because they think Goldwater landslides are going to happen because they believe what the popular misconception the left has created of conservatives -- they think everybody thinks that.

I predict that the GOP will lose in 2016 too! Think about it?

The democrats are guaranteed the vote of those who are being fed, housed, and entertained (SNAP, HUD Section 8, Obamaphone, welfare, extended unemployment) by the taxpayer. They have the union (teacher’s, SEIU, and a few others) in their pocket. The black vote will again be above 70% for the rats. The Spanish will again pick the D ticket. (90% of the media will heap favor on the democrats. Same with the Hollywood crowd. Even the catholics will give them better than half of their vote. Low info voters in the city will vote for them.. Add in a little bit of voter intimidation and voter fraud as seasoning, how the hell could they possibly lose?

Republicans should be asked a simple question on all politcal shows. The last time a Republican won a solid electoral victory was Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984. What did Reagan do that today’s Republicans are not doing?

But, but, but, but Rick Santorum’s a CatholicLiberalRino POS. We learned that on FR during the primaries. Rick Santorum’s a Democrat-lite. He CAN’T possibly be one of the isolated few Republicans standing firm for conservative principles. Can’t happen. He’s garbage. He’s for big government.

Tell me it ain’t so. Not Rick Santorum. Not the panty-waist liberal Rick Santorum? The Infallible FR libertarian Catholic baiters told exposed this scumbag for all to see.

Can’t be Rick Santorum standing tall now when Gingrich and all the other macho-street-fightn’ real libertarian fiscal conservatives but above-the-social-conservative fray heroes are caving on homosex “marriage.”

Oh the Huge Manatee. What is this world coming to? Rick Santorum defending principles? Rick the weasel charlatan Santorum? Rick Sanctimonius?

Yes, I noticed that too. And I also recall how some states have said that they’re not even required to notify parents that they’re indoctrinating their children with this stuff. I believe that it was Massachusetts where a father had to fight his kid’s school because the school was telling the kids not to tell their parents.

But, as you note, they require permission upfront when it’s a conservative message.

It’s exactly backwards from what it used to be and what it should be. But the government indoctrination centers have people’s kids and can do as they like with them as long as they do.
