Lee Daniels' The Butler doesn't hit theaters until October, but the drama about the long-serving head butler at the White House already is being targeted by conservatives because of Jane Fonda's role as Nancy Reagan.

So far, backlash to The Weinstein Co. release is fairly muted -- bloggers have disparaged the casting, and a Facebook page is promoting a boycott -- but chatter about the liberal activist has picked up recently.

"The moviemakers are free to choose, but it seems like it was their way of giving people like me the middle finger," says Larry Reyes, a Navy veteran and founder of the "Boycott Hanoi Jane Playing Nancy Reagan" page.

Fonda's response? "Get a life," she tells THR. "If he creates hoopla, it will cause more people to see the movie."

Of all the terms of shame and disgrace, there is nothing lower, or more associated with dishonor and disgrace than that of being labeled to be a "TRAITOR".

There is nothing lower.

There is no way to LIE one's way out of it.

Bad people, even horrible people, can look down with repulsion and disgust at Hanoi Jane Fonda, and say that at least THEY are not a Traitor.

As a sidebar, Ms. Fonda is not an especially talented actress. She is not totally without ability (that would be Barbara Streisand), but nothing noteworthy. Catch her Oscar (Ha!) performance in Klute, and you'll see precisely what I mean. One doubts that endless coaching, scene cuts, and re-takes will reveal her upcoming performance to be anything above marginal. (I'll have to read about it. My conscience will not permit me to watch Hanoi Jane.)
