Lee Daniels' The Butler doesn't hit theaters until October, but the drama about the long-serving head butler at the White House already is being targeted by conservatives because of Jane Fonda's role as Nancy Reagan.
So far, backlash to The Weinstein Co. release is fairly muted -- bloggers have disparaged the casting, and a Facebook page is promoting a boycott -- but chatter about the liberal activist has picked up recently.
"The moviemakers are free to choose, but it seems like it was their way of giving people like me the middle finger," says Larry Reyes, a Navy veteran and founder of the "Boycott Hanoi Jane Playing Nancy Reagan" page.
Fonda's response? "Get a life," she tells THR. "If he creates hoopla, it will cause more people to see the movie."

I have ideas about where she should go.
Maybe she should go to Best Korea and sit on an anti-aircraft gun.
Fonda needs to spend more time riding Buffalo on Ted’s ranches.
She’ll probably get the Nobel Peace Prize.
As a Vietnam vet I have plenty of ideas about HOW she should go. All of them take place at the hands of a vet.
Easy for her to say since she helped kill so many Americans.

Turnabout is fair play. Imagine if conservatives made a direct-to-the-Internet “docu-drama” production about Hillary Clinton, starring Ann Coulter as Hillary? I can also imagine Jon Voight as Bill Clinton.
I think the funniest part would be based on the fact that Hillary is arrogant, abrasive, and foul-mouthed. Coulter could swear like Hillary, like a sailor, but in editing, the cuss words could be censored with ‘beeps’, which is just naturally comic.
There would be a scene of Bill and Hillary’s violent brawls, like the time she beaned Bill in the face with an ashtray, the time Bill tried to strangle Dick Morris, while Hillary tried to pull him off.
Just endless hilarity, because of their vast corruption, Bill’s psychopathology, political dirty tricks, hypocrisy, etc.
The could also likely get cameos from many other celebrity conservatives. The liberal Democrats would be in a stroke inducing froth about it.
How about people just don’t go see her movie. Fonda is on the older side and I don’t think she will generate a big box office.
Hollywood gives us the finger. We don’t watch their movies... or TV shows... works for me.
Even from just a casting viewpoint the traitor will stick out like a sore thumb. Her voice never changes, she will sound like Jane Fonda in a red dress. Alan Rickman has done some amazing stuff, transforming himself into different characters but I just don't know about Reagan. From Severus Snape to Ronald Reagan?
It's got to be an absolute nightmare for Nancy to know Jane Fonda is going to play her. Then again Ron jr probably requested it. If Jane Fonda had one tiny shred of decency she would have said no to the part.
