I believe a deal was reached with the Senators that were threatening a Filibuster. They would let the legislation go forward as long as it didn’t include any magazine or weapons bans, and not mandate background checks for ALL transactions.
Much of the stuff I’ve heard discussed with this is already law anyway. I believe they just want to dispose of this entire matter, while saving face and being able to say they passed ‘something’. (except for the ideological ‘believers’ who really DO want to see guns banned)
