Gun Control Amendment: Apply Identical Background Check to VOTING
centermass ^ | 04/11/2013 | Uncle Milties / centermass

With thanks to centermass for the original idea:

I suggest that Rand Paul offer the following Amendment to the Gun Control Anti-Bill-Of-Rights legislation before the Senate:

"Any background checks, documentation, restrictions, waiting periods, or any other restrictions of this legislation on a citizen's G-d-given Second Amendment Rights must be equally applied to each citizen's right to VOTE and SPEAK."

If Liberals are going to destroy our G-d-Given and Constitutional rights, let's equally gore their ox. There is no logic to their position, of course, and putting the identical restriction on their pet rights will prove their hypocrisy.

Can anyone get this idea to a pro-Bill-of-Rights Senator in time to make a difference?

I can see how the argument works:

Paul - “Any background checks, documentation, restrictions, waiting periods, or any other restrictions of this legislation on a citizen’s G-d-given Second Amendment Rights must be equally applied to each citizen’s right to VOTE and SPEAK.”

Hoplophobe - “No. Voting and speaking doesn’t result in kids getting murdered in schools.”

Paul - “Really? People in Germany spoke in support for, AND voted for Hitler. And as a result, millions were murdered. So, voting and free speech IS quite dangerous to the general public, wouldn’t you say?”

Crying “Fire!” in a theater can get people killed.

We need registration and waiting periods for each sentence in advance of its utterance.

It’s for the children.

the difference is we punish the people who yelled-
not all people who have the ability to yell or have a ‘high-capacity’ , full-auto yaphole like Biden.

Its backwards, Use voter ID in place of a NICs check. The requirements are the same on a federal level, no felons or loonies. Mr. Holder has spent millions of our money telling states that voter IDs are above reproach. That way anyone with current voter id can skip the federal background check and only have to comply with state regs.

Excellent point. Lunatics which buy guns damage our system in pretty much the same way as lunatics who vote.

Hmmm, me thinks you and centermass have hit on something. For once the idiots controlling the dialog may have gone too far.

I was tempted to write something approaching utopia, but...

Utopia doesn’t exist, reality isn’t pretty, but it’s all we have and the ignorant and low info voters despise it, so, time for their medicine.

There is one for the books, and where there is one, one can only imagine what is going on that we don’t see, see! I know you do see.

Voting for Dinkins in NYC cost more lives than the Iraq war, based on the drop the four years following his term...roughly 5,000 lives.

We punish those who have committed the offense. We don’t, in the case of speech, block them prior to committing any offense or having any reason to expect that they will offend. Nor do we do any number of other parallel infringements.

I like it. If it is racist to ask for photo ID to vote, it is also racist to ask for photo ID for purchasing a gun.
