Push to crack down on guns has opposite effect, sales skyrocket

In President Obama's push to crack down on the abundance of firearms in America, proposed gun-control legislation may be having the opposite effect.

Updated FBI statistics show that background checks in the first three months of the year far outpace the number of checks in early 2012. The stats show that from January through March, gun owners went through 7 million background checks -- compared with just 4.8 million in the first three months of last year.

The spike in checks, coupled with mounting anecdotal claims that ammunition is hard to come by, comes amid concern by gun owners that new proposals at the state and federal level could limit access to firearms.

"...mounting anecdotal claims that ammunition is hard to come by

Just because the internet ammo dealers are all backordered, the Big Box store shelves are bare, and the gun shops haven't had an ammo delivery in six months doesn't mean there is really an ammunition shortage or that ammunition is hard to come by.

It's all just anecdotal - don't you see?

I'm oddly heartened by the fact that the government has been completely unsuccessful in disarming even a single inner city ghetto, so it's unlikely they can disarm the rest of America.

We can't be lured into thinking that the hands-off-by-law-enforcement style we see in the minority areas will be the way the government sets about disarming white suburbs, rural areas, Tea Party groups, military vets, militias, etc.

Think "Ruby Ridge" and, especially, "Siege Of Waco" - that is more like the treatment we can expect.

Used to be in the old days there were gunrunners, now we have all across the contry “ammo runners”. I swear it won’t be long before we see even good old boys racing out across the nation but instead of white lightning its a trunk full of ammo.

Actually that spike in buying you’ve seen started way back in 1995 when Clinton did the Brady bill. It flattened out a little about the turn of the century but turned up again after 9-11. Gun makers have been setting records since the mid 90’s. The one aspect that’s different now is that EVERYTHING gun related, ammo, reloading components, mags, holsters, sights, EVERYTHING, is cleaned out in sporting goods stores-—the down side of this is that dealers who weren’t well stocked are in a tight spot now because makers/suppliers are backed up 6 months or more out. And that is going to hurt some small guys simply because they can’t get anything to sell.

I promise you there is not a Federal man anywhere in the country who doesn’t remember what Oky City was all about. They will mind their manners.

At some point, they are going to “lay siege” to some place like that and find that there is a perimeter around their perimeter.

It seems to me that the FedGov is picking and choosing which laws to respect and enforce, thereby setting the example for all of us.

‘If you’re the president, member of congress, govt. agent, etc, the only reason why anyone should listen to what you say, is because you exercise power via the Constitution’.

‘If the Constitution doesn’t count, you don’t have any legitimate power, and should be (forcibly) removed for trying to exercise power you don’t possess’.

You’ve stated, in essence, what I’ve said about the current exercise of power.

It is power that is not given the legitimacy of being granted by the Constitution, and therefore has no legitimate authority. It is simply obeyed because they have the means to impose it on us and punish us for not complying.

In other words, it is no more legitimate than thuggery.

Oh, we’ll obey, for now, but not out of respect for their authority. They don’t have authority. They have force.

...proposed gun-control legislation may be having the opposite effect.

Ah, that's just a rumor.

65.4 Million Guns Bought Since Obama Took Office, 91% More Than Bush's First-Term Total

And in the last two months... (Nov. 2012 and Dec. 2012)

Americans Buy Enough Guns in Last Two Months to Outfit the Entire Chinese and Indian Armies

LOL

Maybe it's her. . I think women are starting to 'get it' re the whole gun issue and are buying and taking classes in droves. A lot of women around here shot a gun for the first time last year, and are really into self-defense and the whole 2nd Amendment 'guard against tyranny' concept. Education is the key. .

Bears repeating:

"The media doesn't cover the 2.5 million home invasions per year in the USA and the 300,000 rapes of unarmed women."
