Push to crack down on guns has opposite effect, sales skyrocket

In President Obama's push to crack down on the abundance of firearms in America, proposed gun-control legislation may be having the opposite effect.

Updated FBI statistics show that background checks in the first three months of the year far outpace the number of checks in early 2012. The stats show that from January through March, gun owners went through 7 million background checks -- compared with just 4.8 million in the first three months of last year.

The spike in checks, coupled with mounting anecdotal claims that ammunition is hard to come by, comes amid concern by gun owners that new proposals at the state and federal level could limit access to firearms.

I heard that in 2008, when Obama was elected, people started stockpiling guns and ammunition. Seems like the spike is this buying has not stopped.

And I do wager that a lot of current military and ex-military will not let the government take their guns from them...

The news media and democrats have one goal to make the government more powerful so to be able to crack down on us more. as the government gains more power then our rights and freedoms are taken away one my one. they are after total control until we are all slaves. this is why they rabidly want to take away our gun rights.

They are passing a gun bill on a statistically nonexistent event. more people killed by lightning strikes than are by mass murderer shooters. real events the media doesn't cover are the 2.5 million home invasions per year in the USA , the 300,000 rapes of unarmed women etc.

yes practically anyone can grab a gun and start gunning people down in a government gun free zone( but not where people are armed because they will fire back). But practically no one does this as there are only hand-full of mass shooters and there are 330 million people in the U.S.A. people have always murdered and they don't need a gun to do it. but mass shooters is a fluke , a statistically non-existant event it is so rare that it really doesn't exist but the media and democrats make it seem like it is the only thing happening

The news media totally controls people's minds and the country

but even conservatives don't see this. that mass shooters are not really a threat ( it is so rare as to be statistically non-existant). the only thing we should say when the media brings this up to is to say this that it's a fluke that it's not representative of gun owners, that it is such a rare event that it is not worth talking about much less passing laws that restrict the freedom of all Americans and especially law abiding Americans. why don't people see this? send this to the stupid politicians and even the stupid conservative pundits that don't see how ridiculous this is. real events the media doesn't cover are the 2.5 million home invasions per year in the USA , the 300,000 rapes of unarmed women etc.

The peasants don't know what's good for them.

Thank God they have the feral government to keep them in line.

And now we’ve got that idiot Joe Biden telling everyone that firing a good AR-15 is like driving a Ferrari...everyone’s gonna want one.

The spike in checks ... comes amid concern by gun owners that new proposals at the state and federal level could limit access to firearms.

This is the party line promulgated by the MSM.
This is not shooters trying to get certain guns before they're banned; it is society arming itself for civil war.

Well he did say he would have a laser like focus on creating jobs and in this case he did ... now he has to pass some legislation to kill it.

I'm oddly heartened by the fact that the government has been completely unsuccessful in disarming even a single inner city ghetto, so it's unlikely they can disarm the rest of America.
Unfortunately, a lot of law abiding gun owner will be crushed before CW2 starts in earnest.
We're not breaking the law, the law is out to break us.

Meanwhile in the ghetto, it's business as usual. With tacit government approval.

The news media and democrats have one goal to make the government more powerful . . .

With all due respect, you left the GOP out of the mix.

Thx. Just read that. Very true.

Something mentioned in that blog is in great parallel to what is happening today.

Just as the British accelerated the revolution by trying to confiscate the powder of the provincial storehouse in Boston, causing what was to become known as the Powder Alarm, Obama and his gun-grabbers are driving Americans to arm themselves against his tyranny.

I have never owned a gun nor have ever wanted one in the house. I'm not anti-gun, just how I've chosen to live.

I now see it as an absolute necessity to arm myself as it has become increasingly clear that our government has an adversarial relationship with it's electorate.

I'll be taking a handgun marksmanship class in a week and will likely seek a CCW at least for my wife.

That our nation has descended to this level is appalling. Christianity, self-defense and self-determination, among others, are currently not a principled portion of those we elect.

Buy one for “herd immunity” at least.

When nearly every household has one, they’re not as likely to try to demonize the gunowner to justify their actions.
