Ben Carson Steps Down as Johns Hopkins Commencement Speaker
The Christian Post ^ | April 11, 2013 | Leonardo Blair

Citing the recent controversy over his comments on same-sex marriage, neurosurgeon and rising conservative star Dr. Benjamin Carson has voluntarily stepped down as commencement speaker at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

The Baltimore Sun reported that Carson, who heads the department of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, informed medical school Dean Paul B. Rothman in a letter that he didn't want to "distract from the celebratory nature of the day."

"Given all the national media surrounding my statements as to my belief in traditional marriage, I believe it would be in the best interest of the students for me to voluntarily withdraw as your commencement speaker this year," Carson notes in the letter to Rothman who later shared it with the Johns Hopkins community.

“Hearing from Carson is a privilege. These students didn’t deserve it.”

Exactly. Better yet, Johns Hopkins doesn’t need to hear from him, anything more than a letter resigning his position there.

Plenty of world-class medical facilities out there who would give anything to have the world’s premier neuro-surgeon on staff and faculty.

Time to vote with the feet, Dr. Carson.

I agree. Liberals would shove it in your face just to get a reaction, where conservatives are the ones who actually strive for peace with our neighbors.

True about facing down Obastard. But he was to address the entire class, not just the malcontents who complained. What about the folks he just deprived?

He “voluntarily stepped down.” We’ll never beat these people until we push back. Ben Carson didn’t push back. He can now expect to be attacked with impunity until he’s off the “public square.” It’s inevitable.

I disagree. Dr. Carson is anything but a coward. He exhibited a lot of wisdom in this decision. He knows full well that the points he would have made in his speech would only be lost in chaos of the media narrative of his having been an unwelcomed speaker. We know for sure there would be those who would attempt to shout him down, and very little if any of his speech would be heard or remembered as a result. He will get plenty of chances to bring his message to those who are willing to hear it. He played this with maturity and grace and has taken much of the wind out of the sails of the media and leftists with this decision. It has to be so frustrating for them. Bwahahahahahaha!!!

In such a setting, given the prevailing tendency of the thought controllers (known as "progressives,") and their tendency to shout down, demonstrate and create havoc surrounding such events, Dr. Carson's exit will rob them of a venue for their attack on freedom.

Then, again, perhaps prevailing attitudes emanating from Washington have helped to create the tyrannical climate toward open inquiry, freedom of conscience, and free expression of religious belief--all of which are protected by "the People's" Constitution from the purview of their elected officials.

Youth of the nation, including those at Johns Hopkins, have, perhaps, been influenced in their so-called "political correctness" demands by what might be called "progressive purity" of expression by Obama Administration policies and actions over the period of their stay at Johns Hopkins.

David Barton, on his Wallbuilders.com web site, posted an editorial documenting some actions by the President and current Administration which could possibly influence young minds not trained to be vigilant about their religious liberty and freedom of expression.

Readers might benefit from other editorials in the Issues and Articles Section of Barton's "Wallbuilder" site.

On that site, Wallbuilders provides reprints of original writings and speeches from the founding period which document the intention of the Founders and Framers of our Constitution that, in accord with the scriptural quotation on the Liberty Bell, their actions were to "Proclaim liberty throughout the land." Their Declaration of Independence from a government which, like today's, seems intent on imposing its coercive will on "We, the People," and the Constitution which became the Supreme Law of the Land, were intended to protect "the People" from the government, not to impose a politically-correct limit on freedom of expression or religious belief and practice.

Dean Rothman could grow some hair, step up, put some hurt on the whiners. We’ll see if he does. After all who in vited Carson in the first place? Academic purity, rigorous study of the issues, ability to study both sides of an issue, open minded DOCTORS, maybe? This isn’t a fight Carson should have to wage by himself. The wine sucking stogie burners around campus should be defending his right, once invited, to finish speaking. And who is going to give a class on manners to that claven of snivelers? Johns Hopkins could easily do itself a lot of damage by coasting on this situation.

One would think that after spending as much time and money on a medical education that you would want to hear from one of the most successful renowned surgeons in the country. Maybe not.

Every time we think there is someone in our corner who can take the fight to the ruling elite, they collapse like a cheap card table.

If you let a bunch of maggot infested, syphilis infected, brainwashed scum chase you away you would not have been a leader in the first place.

Too, bad but once again the lying but highly vocal communists win another battle.

I guess it is easier to stand up for your principals when you are on the left because your principals can change at will.
