This is exactly what you want to hear with bills on gun control and immigration in the pipeline.
Dude, Im nervous.
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) signaled Thursday that he may continue to bypass a House Republican rule [i.e. the "Hastert Rule"] that has required any legislation being voted upon to have the support of a majority of the GOP conference
He said at a news conference Thursday that he will continue to try and follow it in spirit, but also suggested he might well violate it for upcoming votes on guns, immigration and the budget.
Listen: It was never a rule to begin with, Boehner said. And certainly my prerogative my intention is to always pass bills with strong Republican support.
Hes violated the Hastert Rule several times on budgetary matters, most notably the fiscal-cliff deal (and as recently as two days ago), but caving on cultural hot-buttons like background checks and amnesty has the makings of a Category Five shinolastorm among the base. Some House conservatives are already warning him not to cross the line:
The effort is being led by Reps. Paul Broun, a Senate hopeful gunning for Georgias open seat, and Steve Stockman, a Texas Republican who gained notoriety earlier this year for inviting rocker/2nd Amendment-defender Ted Nugent to the State of the Union.
We are writing to express our strong opposition to legislation requiring private sale background checks for firearms purchases, the letter reads. Under the precedents and traditions of the House, we would ask that no gun legislation be brought to the floor of the House unless it has the support of a majority of our caucus.
A spokesman for Rep. Stockman says more than 45 Republicans have signed the letter, although its doubtful a Hastert majority of the House GOP will endorse it.
Other House members are warning him to follow regular order on immigration and not try to rush the bill through. Could a bill even get through GOP-dominated House committees, though? The only way to get something passed might be to violate both the Hastert Rule and regular order: Bypass the committees, rush something to the floor, and then hope that a unanimous Democratic caucus and critical mass of 30 or so GOP squishes rams it through. The question is, what if that happens? Will the caucus, under the microscope of a shady amnesty vote, be forced to oust him as Speaker? Or is Jonathan Bernstein right that tea-party congressmen kind of like the idea of seeing popular legislation pass, which arguably helps the party in the aggregate, while being able to vote no on it, which helps them in their home districts? Its certainly true that, for all of Boehners anti-Hastert-Rule heresies, theres been no serious effort to depose him. But maybe on immigration and, especially, on guns, the caucus would have no choice. If a bad bill passes and they dont dump him, conservatives back home might hold it against them regardless of whether they voted no on the bill itself.
ANY gun bill that has Obama’s support is a clear and present danger to freedom. Passing such a bill would obviously be stupid and treasonous. I wish that thought made me feel more secure that Boehner would not do it.
This man is a disgrace and should have been sent packing from the leadership. Funny that I am getting desensitized to this stuff anymore. Seriously comes as no surprise.
If Boehner screws this up, the only way for the Rs to even hold the House in 2014 would be dump him.
What the hell ever happened to a conference committee bill?
Come on. This is ridiculous.
Any one for TEA?
Puke PING! What Levin’s talking about...
rino’s - democrats.
gop elite leadership - democrats.
done with em. seriously done with em. they don’t do what we want and need one. let their precious moderates and liberals vote them in over opposing democrats. see how well that works.
once they’re out of power we can run real conservative candidates and get the seats back.
I’ll have some TEA!
They’re pushing the people of this Country to the brink. There is just one political party and it wants the people to revolt. It gives them cover to destroy the Republic.
Boehner- the Judas Goat
Can’t anything be done about this guy, or are we stuck with him forever?
We are Al Sharpton like victims and you GOpers must listen to us!
or we will cry.

Boehner is no more likely to screw this up than Roberts is to mess up a basic constitutional law question like ObamaCare.
this man is in a position to prevent some of the terrible damage being done to America....
if only he would to to WallyMart and buy a can of courage...
(make that Costco and a CASELOAD of courage!)
They had a chance to replace but they all turned red coat and let him serve again. He promised and apologized and of course weeped and they gave into him.
I seriously believe Obama has something on Boehner. Does he have an affair in his closet or is he a closet gay. It’s the only thing that makes sense of why he thinks he is the all powerful Oz.
Hey, look . . . this guy gets to play golf with our pipe-stem armed illegal alien in the White House . . . do you?
He gets invited to super-dooper dinners in the White House . . . do you?
He's two steps from the White House if something happens to Obozo . . . are you?
And maybe be gets to fly around in Airfarce One with Obambibozo . . . do you?
So why don't you, and I, and everyone else just shut up and get back to work.
Bohner would become a national HERO if he would only do his job....
Well put, and the GOP lacks the will or maybe even the desire to replace him. Boehner has the power to lose the House in 2014 if he so desires. What would the Rats pay to gain control of the House?
I happened to walk by a TV with CNN on today. They were discussing orgasms. Really? If this is really what we have to appeal to, it's over.
Boehner and the GOPe have gone over to the dark side. The are now officially the GOP branch of the socialist democrat party. May the GOP dogs rest well in their socialist master’s laps.
In the mean time, the conservative Americans are plotting your political demise.
The DHS Insider said that there are Repubs that are part of the grand plot to destroy the country. Perhaps there identities are coming to light.
Well there is no rule that a non-conservative RINO could not serve as Speaker of the House in a Republican majority either but ... hey we already have that!

I’m beginning to think you’re right—perhaps this despicable alcoholic was enticed/entrapped, by progressive Democrat operatives, into an act of pedophilia while he was in one of his alcoholic hazes. And now is being subjected to selective, strategic blackmail.
Where are our leaders of integrity? Why are we afflicted by the Boehners of the world? John, where is your honor? What will your children think of you when they, and THEIR children, must reap and live with the horrific harvest that you are sowing?
I don’t think these jackholes understand what dangerous ground they tread.
When both parties join to destroy our constitutional God-given rights, they will both pay an equal price for their treason.
Your job is to defend and protect the Constitution.
I suggest you spend adequate time to understand the meaning of the word "infringe".
I think it was 16 Senators alledged to be Republicans who broke the filibuster.
Their names are right out front.
Of Course Lyndsey and his butt buddy McCain were right there.
Really, I don't think it's blackmail. Instead, in Boehner, you have a lifelong politician -- who conceives of himself as a servant of government (not of the people).
He's not an ideologue, he's a technician. And it's his "job" to pass legislation -- to make government "work".
Boehner is not a "leader" or a "big thinker" -- nor, necessarily, a "bad man" -- he's just horribly miscast for the job at hand.
More than anything, the Conservative Movement is in dire need of leaders. And we have none...
Boehner makes Neville Chamberlain look like Dirty Harry.
It’s beginning to look like Boehner is a “scumbag”.
You're a more positive man than I. Boehner has overstayed his welcome much longer than that. The GOP will likely lose the House no matter what happens from this point on.
The GOP should have dumped the chump when they had the chance in Jan. He is a constant liability and a collaborater with the left.
The Gope can kiss it. Goodbye GOPe
Depending on what happens in the senate vote, I will be calling my GOP rep and letting him know that I will be stay home in 2014 unless the leadership changes and grows a backbone. We need millions more to do the same. Force the leadership to protect the constitution, or oust the leadership pronto. Otherwise we will stay home.
Interesting theory. I was thinking being gay or having an affair would almost be a career enhancement for him, given his already being so in bed with the dems. But something like what you suggest would be so repugnant, so destructive, the grip over him would be absolute. I think you might be on to something. But to do us any good, we would need real evidence. Too bad we don’t have the connections to dig this out for ourselves. And it might not even be true. But it does seem to explain the well timed groveling.
Do you remember this story surfacing and then quickly disappearing about Boehner’s affairs?
Hey Johnny. Barry is on the phone. He wants to know how you like your steak cooked.
If either Gun Control or Illegal Alien Amnesty passes the House.... not only I am done with the GOP....I will work to eliminate the party.
If you are really a conservative... its put up or shut up time
You see, the Hastert rule was put in place so that the moderates ruled the day, since the majority of the republican caucus in the Hastert years were still the old guard. Well about 30 of them either retired or were defeated in 2006 and then about another 30 retired or were defeated in 2008.
In 2010, about 60 members new members were elected, most of them conservative so a majority of the republican caucus in the House is now conservative. Ergo, out goes the Hastert rule.
It was an excuse that could be used to quiet conservatives “sorry, little Jimmy conservative, but your proposal doesn’t have the support of a majority of the caucus so...we just won’t be doing that.” but now it’s “sorry little Jimmy conservative but your ideas are crazy and we didn’t want to tell you so...so we’re going to do what we know to be right, which is moderate-liberal legislation, and we’re going to pass it with the help of the democrats”
Gee, what could go wrong!??
Boehner and Priebus are two of the biggest problems plaguing the GOP today. I'd list more names, but JimRob doesn't have that much bandwidth!
This afternoon I received a call from the Republican National Committee. The young lady started to tell me about the things that Obama was going to do. Just so happens I had just read the story about the 16 defectors involved in the gun bill so as she spoke I started saying their names, Alexander-Ayotte-Burr, she continued talking and telling me about how the Republicans were the only ones who could stop the madness, Chambliss-Coburn-Collins, she stopped talking and asked me what I was doing. I gave her an earful about the traitors that are so called Republicans and if they are the ones I would be supporting I did not want anything to do with this party. She was pretty bold and asked if I could just spare $35.00. I said yes and that I would write one a month to each of their primary opponents in the next year. She finally gave up.
They quit calling me.
“....two of the biggest problems plaguing the GOP today. I’d list more names, but JimRob doesn’t have that much bandwidth!”
Now THAT’s funny! LOL
Sounds like it’s past time to take Boner down.
Past time for that. Tethered are already other parties to go to but nobody does. Instead they just sit hear complaining and whining spinning little theories like their Boehner peso bear one. Truth is it is too late. The cultur3 is lost and when it is lost than it is impossible to take a nation back from the edge. The only question is how this will end. Will good people surrender, fight or run away. Those are the only viable options now. I say fighting is useless. Surrendering unacceptable. So leaving the country and finding a new place to start a free nation is the only realistic option in the long term. Just as our forefathers fled England so we must flee America for a “new world”. Is it somewhere in the western pacific or perhaps southern part of Africa? New Zealand’s farthest outreaches or the northern mountains of Thailand? It’s time to start thinking of which exit to use.
Not new nor a surprise. VAWA
is this week it finally enough for republicans? do you finally get that there is one party in d.c. and you as a conservative aren’t represented?
