Connecticut Sen. pleads with Murdoch and Fox: Don't air 'NRA 500' NASCAR race

Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy is pleading with Rupert Murdoch, the chairman and CEO of News Corporation, which owns the Fox Sports channel, not to air a National Rifle Association-sponsored NASCAR race scheduled for this weekend.

The race "is inappropriate in the immediate wake of the Newtown massacre," Sen. Murphy wrote on Thursday in a letter to Murdoch, referencing the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that took place in Murphy's home state last December.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup, which is set to take place at the Texas Motor Speedway on April 13, will be the first top-level NASCAR race the NRA has sponsored, following smaller races hosted in the past. The winners of the races are awarded with revolvers, while the fastest qualifier is given a shotgun, according to a report from CNN.

In his letter to Murdoch, Sen. Murphy argued that the race "not only brings national attention to an organization that has been the face of one side of this heated debate, it also features the live shooting of guns at the end of the race."

In Murdoch, Murphy may find a sympathetic ear: The media mogual has long been a staunch advocacte of gun control and even called for an automatic weapons ban in the wake of both the Newtown shooting and the Aurora, Colo., shooting, in July. But Murdoch has not indicated that he will let his personal beliefs dictate the programming on his networks -- most notably Fox News, where anchors and guests continue to oppose gun control measures.

Murphy made a direct appeal to Murdoch's past language, including one tweet in which the News Corp chief wrote: "Nice words from POTUS on shooting tragedy, but how about some bold leadership action?"

It’s clear, and it’s simple. Liberals are the enemy within. They will stop at nothing to destroy our way of life. They will never rest, and never stop.

Until and unless we frame every encounter with a liberal in that context, we will lose.

They fear publicity for the NRA.

This is from CT, where they elected a US senator who lied about being a VietNam veteran. Of course, Sen. Murphy supported the liar. Half of those politicians are liars and crooks.

Short Answer, NO. NEVER.

They will continue until they have complete control over your life. They will settle for nothing less.

No no no, car racing is OK, it’s the sponsor of the race that’s the problem.

They will just cut away to a commercial etc when they shoot off the guns. AS far as the viewers are concerned they will think it was sponsored by Tampex..... -)

I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations. James Madison

Chrissy, you prissy lyin ....

Go back to parliment and tell the king to pound sand.

If that’s a problem feel free to send all the kings dressed pretty as they please, to a certain lawn in Concord, MA.

Be happy to quietly discuss the matter.

Sincerely,

US Vendome
