April 12, 2013

Dear Friends,

I believe every senator should be required to go on the record about their views on the Second Amendment.

And yesterday, I voted for a procedural motion to require senators to go on the record about where they stand on gun control. I believe the American people deserve to know where the Senate stands on this issue.

I want to debate and I want to vote. I’m not afraid to show my support for the Second Amendment.

Here's why:

· Many senators have refused to take a position on some of these gun control issues for fear of angering one side or the other. There’s only one way to see where Senators actually stand on the Second Amendment – make them vote.

· We still have the ability to filibuster and subject any gun control legislation to the 60 vote threshold in the United States Senate.

· Filibustering, before the debate even begins, means many senators get a free pass. Some politicians’ dream scenario is one where they don’t actually have to vote FOR or AGAINST a gun control proposal but can tell each side they were with them all along. Again, let’s make senators vote.

· Nothing the Democrats are proposing in their gun control bill would have prevented the Sandy Hook massacre. We need senators on record. Do you support these gun control measures?

· Finally, I have my own legislation, supported by the National Rifle Association (NRA), which I want to bring forward in the Senate. My legislation would make a real difference in keeping guns out of the wrong hands.

It’s designed to prevent individuals like Alice Boland, a mentally disturbed individual who once pled ‘Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity’ in federal court for threatening to kill the President of the United States from legally buying a firearm. Under current law, she was able to pass a background check, buy a pistol, and go to Ashley Hall School in Charleston where she tried to shoot several school officials. One bullet in her hands is one too many.

Again, as a strong supporter of the Second Amendment I welcome a debate on gun control. The American people deserve to see where their elected representatives stand on the Second Amendment.

Let’s vote.

Sincerely,

Lindsey O. Graham United States Senator

If the Repuboicans have a strategy about this it is the Dems only have 49 votes, which includes Republicans. So this will go nowhere.

Republicans win the battle however come election time the Rats will accuse the Republicans of wanting to kill children.

And that children is how the Democrats plan on taking back congress.

No, you scummy little worm (Grahamesty). We do not need to “debate” the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. They’re not subject to debate or negotiation. Your duty as a U.S. Senator is to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God!! That means you vote this Marxist crap down anytime and every time it rears it’s evil head!!

I got an email from my state senator whose flowery message indicates she is voting the way of the voter. Then I read an article she is doing nothing of the sort. If anything she is voting the opposite.

Bah. He's just providing cover for himself. He wants to vote against it, knowing it'll pass the Senate without his vote. Then he can still pretend to be a conservative, toss up his hands, and say "we tried". I'm tired of that old song and dance. There is no reason *EVER* to subject congress to a vote concerning INFRINGING CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. Amend the Constitution, or back off. Anything less is TREASON.

Please rewrite him and tell him “With all due respect you dolt- it doesn’t matter where they stand on the constitution- the constitution does NOT stand or fall on what position later generatkions take on the issue- the second amendment was put in place tyo protect us fro mthe lieks of peopel like you- peopel with no spine- peopel who think popularity trumps constitutional RIGHTS’

[[Why not humiliate the rats with a filibuster,]]

Because that woudl have been the RIGHT thing to do- stop the rats in their tracks- stop them from violating our constitution- but nope- the dolts think that ‘voting’ on whether the second amendment realyl means what it says is apparently a much better approach? How abotu we just assume our foundign fathersw MEANT what they said and leave it at that and SHUT DOWN ANY DOLT that tries to violate thsoe RIGHTS

Since when does a citizen’s constitutional right require debate on the Senate Floor? I reject the premise of of this letter.

You catch the last point?:

“· Finally, I have my own legislation, supported by the National Rifle Association (NRA), which I want to bring forward in the Senate. My legislation would make a real difference in keeping guns out of the wrong hands. “

If that isn’t a version of “Just the tip, just for a second, just to see how it feels” . . . .

He could have included a reference to that bill, if this is going to be as wildly popular with strict constitutionalists as he thinks it will be.

What was the time line? When did you send the email and when did you receive a response?

The response is obviously completely canned, there's nothing personalized about it. Did you ask her questions in your email that weren't answered?

She'll be gone come the primary.
