PHILADELPHIA, April 12, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Tens of thousands of pro-life activists posted messages on Twitter on Friday with the hashtag #Gosnell to break through a pervasive media blackout that continues to envelope mainstream media outlets from the Washington Post and New York Times to the Big Three cable networks.
Some 23.600 Twitter messages were sent using the abortionist's last name within one hour -- 11 a.m. Eastern.
A screenshot shows, enough people have used the term on the online messenger service to make it the site's top trending term.
The tweets have totalled more than 10,000 messages an hour since 9 a.m.
The term was also the top search term on Politico. However, the center-left publication has yet to carry any stories about the Philadelphia abortionist on trial for murder.
Several pro-life groups organized a day-long "tweetfest" with the hashtag to protest the story's absence from mainstream media outlets.
Ten Congressmen made special order speeches on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday to ask why the trial's grisly details were not better known.
Rep. Christopher Smith, R-NJ, said, "If Dr. Gosnell had walked into a nursery and shot seven infants with an AR-15, it would be national news and the subject of presidential hand-wringing."
"Mr. President, your silence is deafening," said Rep. Scott Perry, R-PA.
Liberal feminist Kirsten Powers, a Fox News regular and a columnist for the Daily Beast, wrote in USA Today, "This should be front page news. When Rush Limbaugh attacked Sandra Fluke, there was non-stop media hysteria...Yet, accusations of babies having their heads severed a major human rights story if there ever was one doesn't make the cut."
Their efforts met with success. CNN's Anderson Cooper has announced he will cover the Gosnell trial on tonight's "360 with Anderson Cooper."
Gosnell's trial is currently underway for "snipping" the spinal columns of seven babies born alive. His untrained staff administered an inappropriate amount of sedative to 41-year-old immigrant Karnamaya Mongar, killing her.
If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
The media is the enemy of everything I hold dear. They have been for my entire adult life and I knew it when I was a young man. I am now 61 and it is more blatant but it has never changed.
This whole thing is SO SICKENING!!
Media bots: If you’re reading this - COVER THIS STORY!!!
And still being tweeted at a rate of better than 200 per minute.
Its been trending #1 on twitter for the past two days..twitter has their issues, but they do have a way of spreading the word on things NOT reported in the Obama loving media..word is spreading
They need to also get the libs attention by using their own hashtags against them People should use #WARONWOMEN, #UNDOCUMENTED, #CIVILRIGHTSVIOLATION
“Mr. President, your silence is deafening,” said Rep. Scott Perry, R-PA.” Don’t they realize Obama thinks if an abortion is botched and the baby is alive that it should be killed he voted for it. I guess they just don’t realize who Obama is yet.
I will have to take back what I have said publicly in the past about Twitter (that is was worthless (-”a source which shows no regards for decency”). There are some useful dimensions after all. The story should be all over the media though they know once young women find out about this procedure, they may choose the child to live vs killing the child. The so called insane doctor should be found guilty and sentenced quickly. How anyone could cover up murder of so many as the media is doing as well. The media is mostly liberal who decry about capital punishment as being inhuman. These people are nothing but frauds while living a lifestyle of selfishness.
