Sandy Hook mother replaces Obama for guns in weekly President's radio address
BBC ^

The mother of a victim of last year's Sandy Hook shootings has replaced Barack Obama to deliver the weekly US presidential radio address.

Francine Wheeler, whose six-year-old son Ben was killed, used the nationally-broadcast statement to call for tighter gun controls.

Asking a citizen to deliver the weekly address is a highly unusual move.

It comes as President Obama attempts to ratchet up pressure on the US Congress, which is due to debate new gun laws.

In an often emotional statement, Ms Wheeler recalled waiting for her son to return home following the shootings, and said the "tidal wave of anguish" resulting from that day had yet to recede.

She said new gun laws were needed to prevent more deaths.

"We have to convince the Senate to come together and pass commonsense gun responsibility reforms that will make our communities safer and prevent more tragedies like the one we never thought would happen to us," she said.

Ms Wheeler's son Ben was killed along with 19 other children and six staff when 20-year-old Adam Lanza opened fire at his elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

The address was broadcast on radio and released as a video online.

This week senators are due to debate new laws that will extend background checks to gun sales made at gun shows and over the internet.

The measures are the result of a bipartisan deal struck between Republican and Democrat senators last week.

I’m glad a handful of rich, white liberals can make all these decisions for us.

It’s what Occupy Wall Street was all about: people power. :)

“She is beyond stupid to be used in zero’s pawn game....”

I know the woman is in terrible state of grief, but the term useful idiot comes to mind for having been used like this....a political pawn.

Would banning handguns prevent a Beslan Massacre in America or make it more likely to occur? Terrorists like soft targets. Over a HUNDRED kids were killed in Russia.

The president’s policies are not designed to prevent chaos. Only to capitalize on it.

Yup, and, as we know, when she has served her purpose he will toss her under the bus....

Of course no one ever listens to the weekly radio address. But I've already seen one replayed segment, where our celebrated victim actually said, since her child had been killed, in America already "thousands had died from gun violence."

Naturally, no one on that side of the camera had the chops to say "bullsh*t."

It must be true. Some Dem spokeswoman recently said thousands or millions or something more kids had been killed by guns in the U.S. since Sandy Hook.

"Vot difference does it make?"

I can’t understand why the public servants just don’t pass one of their “laws” making it illegal for lunatics to go into a school and shoot people. To hell with violating the Second Amendment rights of Americans, let’s start with a “law” banning “massacres”. Geez. This isn’t rocket science.

This is beyond shameful how Obama and the dems are using these people to further their agenda.

Obama and the Dems are using this woman and others like a fiddle..they are laughing behind her back at how easy it is to manipulate these people..oh and the close up of her crying was another typical leftist tactic..I dont care how many times this woman cries on TV, you wont take away my 2nd Amendment rights!

Sadly for these people being exploited by this slug (sorry slugs) but this could turn around and bite them in the arse.

After 9/11 and the ‘surviving wives’ came into all that money I believe they were referred to as the ‘Jersey Wives’ and kind of remember HRC ripping into someone about saying the wives were ‘greedy and exploiting their dead husbands’.

Even the show “Rescue Me” kind of focused on the wives of the dead ‘living it up’ while forgetting about the wives of the survivors etc etc..

Another useful tool for the left. I lost a child, so I know her particular kind of grief, but when she wakes up and sees how she’s been played, Mama ain’t gonna be happy!

Those babies will go on unmourned and unloved. They died nameless. Which makes it all the more tragic.

Scissors and guns are just inanimate objects. Lanza is a product of a culture that dehumanizes. People don’t want to address that because it would lead to some very hard and inconvenient questions. So instead, it’s just “Let’s ban guns!”

Shameless exploitation.
Political correctness and leftist policies are to blame in all these mass shootings.
If Seung-Hui Cho had been institutionalized for mental illness, 32 people would still be alive at Virginia Tech.
If Jared Loughner had been institutionalized, 6 would be alive in Tucson.
If James Holmes had been institutionalized, 12 lives spared in Aurora, CO.
If Adam Lanza had been institutionalized, 26 would still live in Newtown, CT.
If Nidal Hasan had been properly reported, investigated, and discharged from the Army, 13 would not have died at Ft. Hood.
If you really want to improve safety, keep criminals in jail, terrorists out of the U.S., and people are are mentally deranged in institutions.

““She said new gun laws were needed to prevent more deaths.””

When I was in Law School, I was told there were, IIRC, over 70,000 laws making the murder of a person illegal. Thousands of these laws were relevant to the use of guns.

Her name should be “Craftsman” since she is being used as a tool for the Socialist Leadership in control here in the US.

I wonder how many of these parents were anti-gun and anti-2nd-Amendment before the killings? If the first school personnel the deranged moron met had a gun and used it to kill him, this would have never gotten to the killing of innocent children. This woman (and others used) are fools.
