ESPN said that sources confirmed to the outlet that two drivers have been advised by their PR people not to conduct interviews in the Texas Motor Speedway media center in order to avoid the NRA logo from appearing behind them.

The move is just the latest in media hysteria that has resulted from the NRA sponsoring Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race, the NRA 500.

Wow, that’s smart. I know of no NASCAR fans anywhere at all who own guns or are NRA members. /s

NASCAR now joins baseball, basketball and football in the dead American sports category.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Apparently, whoever told those NASCAR drivers not to do interviews in the MC doesn't understand NASCAR's audience. Most race fans are conservatives who go to church and like to hunt, among other things.

This was just dumb!

Long ago these pro sports sold out. Now it is just TV programming and not a sport. Everything is TV/sponsor money driven now. Too much money and payola involved.

Those who run the “sports” just want to keep the gravy train going at all costs.

This should probably motivate a lot of the drivers to make sure they DO the interviews in front of the NRA logo.

Yeah, I think it is time to be offended by Beer sponsorship of NASCAR. Drunk driving kills thousands every year yet NASCAR parades Beer ads around on cars. How offensive is that? I wonder how NASCAR would like the shoe on that foot?

A driver should have stepped up and said “if these leftists like communism so much, why not move to N Korea and leave us the hell alone.”

“Proudly posting without reading the article since [sign-up date]” should be the default tagline for everybody on FR.

“I would say about Mr. Higdon is, I think he’s new to the sport and doesn’t quite understand how it all works,” Gossage told local ESPN Dallas radio host Randy Galloway. “And he could have just as easily put out a quote that said C.Y.A. [cover your ass]. That’s what that is.”

“It’s a PR mistake to have made that statement,” he added. “They should have conferred with some other folks before they issued that.”

A lot, not all, of the “media” types are referring to this race yesterday as the Texas 500. This is shoddy, incorrect reporting. The race yesterday was the NRA 500. The Texas 500 will be run at TMS on November 3rd. Believe it or not, Yahoo.com sports got it right.
