California teen dies in fatal game of 'chicken' [with a train]

Austin Price, a 15-year-old sophomore at San Lorenzo High School in San Lorenzo, Calif., died Thursday playing a game of "chicken" with two friends on the train tracks near his school, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Friday. The northbound Amtrak train hit Price when he didn't move out of the way in time -- though his two companions weren't hurt.

Principal Tovi Scruggs said the "dangerous" train tracks were a popular hang out site for students.

"It's an ongoing concern," Scruggs said. "Tragedies don't happen frequently, but we know the tracks are not staying empty."

Prince's classmates told the Chronicle that boys at their school played "chicken" there "all the time."

"People won't be by the tracks anymore," one of Price's friends said.

“It’s very important that kids realize how dangerous the tracks are," Alameda County Deputy April Luckett told reporters, adding that parents need to "reiterate that to their children that they need to stay off the tracks."

Let me guess, the train didn't chicken out and swerve at the last minute?

The poor teen probably thought it was possible that a train swerve right or left like a car can to avoid hitting him. Sorry but most kids in other countries know that trains cannot do that.

Should we ban trains now?

Well, at least he won... his two friends chickened out. Too bad he won’t be able to celebrate his victory.

I think the kid who jumped off the 10 story high building with a GI Joe parachute had more sense.

I'm sure Senator DiFi will submit legislation for "Commonsense" train registration, but Stinky Harry will make sure it goes nowhere, since he's got his fingers all over the railroad industry. Besides, I'm sure Mr. DiFi profits handsomely from the Chinese railroad industry.

When I was a wee toddler, we lived with a passenger rail line in our front yard.
This was after WWII and housing was in short supply. We learned by age 3 to stay off the RR tracks, but we did leave a few pennies.
The train went by about 50-60 mph. The Rock Island Rocket from Chicago to Peoria.

Sad. Story continues to those left behind; the families. People decide to roll the dice with their lives everyday. It's called freedom. On the other side of freedom, most try to continue their faith in life so to be with their family and friends esp, those who have a illness in appreciating each moment.

We need a Federal Registry of all children who dare one another to do things and screen them for violence and mental illness. Even though this may be costly, saving one life would be worth it and some government sponsored social worker actually might do something useful by predicting the most likely teens to fail to remove themselves quickly enough from the path of oncoming trains. And, if you disagree with this line of reasoning, you are a heartless ghoul and likely a racist.

High Speed Rail is only going to aggravate the problem. Ban High Speed Rail before it gets into the hands of criminals (like Jerry Brown). Save our children!!!

How do we collect this kids “fair share” of ObamaDebt, now? This little welp is off the hook for about 270K? That’s really selfish. Maybe the fedgov can get it by selling his collection of comics?
