Have you ever broken the side glass of a vehicle? I have, many times. It crumbles into tiny pieces. It's tempered safety glass. It's purposely made to do this so the occupants cannot be sliced up by glass shards.
Years ago somebody shot out my passenger window while I was driving, and the window practically turned to sand.
