Another killer disease striking homosexuals

"Health officials work to diffuse fears of national epidemic"

“Gay” sex is becoming even more dangerous.

Health officials are warning sexually active “gay” men about an outbreak of potentially deadly bacterial meningitis in Los Angeles and New York.

The disease has infected 22 people in New York and caused seven deaths since 2010. Health officials in Los Angeles are testing to see if the strain infecting “gay” men there is the same one hitting New York.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation began offering free meningitis vaccines today after a “gay” man from West Hollywood was declared brain dead on Friday.

Thirty-three-year-old lawyer Brett Shaad died within a week of feeling sick.

Authorities suspect he was exposed to bacterial meningitis at a party in Palm Springs the weekend of March 30 that attracts “gay” revelers from across the country.

The New York Daily News is calling the disease an STD threat, even though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not classify bacterial meningitis as a sexually transmitted disease.

The CDC does say the disease can not be spread by casual contact, but, “Some bacteria can spread through the exchange of respiratory and throat secretions (e.g., kissing).”

KTLA reported the death of Shaad, a West Hollywood lawyer, has caused alarm.

“We’re not saying at this point that we have an outbreak in Los Angeles,” Michael Weinstein, president of the AHF, told KTLA. “But we know that this disease is serious, it’s deadly and that it can spread relatively easily.”

The AP reported Shaad went to an emergency room on Wednesday and on Thursday he was in a coma.

Symptoms of the disease often appear within three to seven days of exposure. They include fever, stiff .......

“AIDS was their warning shot. Yet they ignore it.”

I knew the next one would be much much worse

I abhor stereotyping.

Awwww. Large-scale statistical analysis is not, in spite of the incredibly delicate sensitivities of our time, an issuance of personal judgment. It's hard for many people to understand, but the numbers don't lie, if the statisticians are honest - and they are, because it's a matter of keeping their company solvent and themselves employed.

However, the numbers are not about any particular YOU, but about millions upon millions of ALL Y'ALL. Just as the statistics to not predict the life of any individual homosexual, they also do not predict the life of any individual smoker.

God’s punishment is not the question at this point.

The question is whether these people already had a compromised immune system because of homosexuality.

If so, then it is similar to other illnesses that were actually a lot worse in AIDS gays.

First, were they HIV positive to AIDS positive. That’s important to know. We don’t have info on that yet.

Second, was there some other NEW something that lowered their normal immunity in relation to the body’s ability to resist meningitis? Remember that the HIV virus only became the focus of a search because of those in the gay community dying of cancers, pneumonia, etc. at an alarming rate.

The fact that there was a cluster of gay deaths with meningitis in New York says that someone should be looking for an underlying cause until they rule that out.

22 people affected in 3 years? Falling anvils have done more damage in that amount of time.

Clearly you have no heart. Pink journalists are in hysterics that this may put a crimp on the coming weekend's orgy. SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING!!!

Wrong word, try SURVIVE — As in, societies that lack common sense to recognize the due penalties for certain unhealthy actions, don’t.

Do you stuff your gullet with rotten food despite the foul smell and taste?

I’ve read other articles on bacterial meningitis and agree with the sentiment of your post that this is not some new “gay” disease. It is dangerous and outbreaks occur in various populations. There recently was an outbreak in the gay population in New York and various media sources on both sides of the political spectrum sensationalized that outbreak for their own political reasons. The real issue here for me — and I recognize I’m probably in a small minority on this thread — is how the media and various groups use outbreaks like this to push a political position.

Public high schools should teach the health dangers of homosexuality in schools, just like they warn kids about smoking or obesity.

In the case of bacterial meningitis, I doubt that AIDS matters one whit. As I said in an earlier post, even the US Army loses its cool when there is an outbreak. In retrospect, while I was caught up in one outbreak, I was near enough to another outbreak, near a military preschool, to get real nervous about it.

As soon as they knew about it, Army medical gave shots in that case to over 200 people with even a vague possibility of exposure, within just a few hours. At the time this just amazed me.

The biggest concern with an AIDS situation would be the fear of the development of an antibiotic resistance evolving in the bacteria. Only three cases of resistant meningitis have been detected in the US about a decade ago, all in Minnesota: a young child, a college student, and an adult who died. Since then, cases are now regularly screened for resistance.

If these homosexuals had a resistant form, it would be known by now.

The point is about immunity.

Do you know that these victims were not immune deficient?

I don’t. No one’s addressed that yet.

And, they used to say the same thing about pneumonia and Kaposis sarcoma among homosexuals in that they looked for an oddity in those presenting problems.

It was actually an underlying deficiency caused by an entirely different vector.

It is the CLUSTER that is the cause of concern, yefrag.

O-M-G! I think you owe me a new keyboard which is the standard result of half a cup of coffee suddenly spewing thru the nasal passages all over the KB.

"Interestingly, most of the decreased life expectance for smokers is not due to smoking-specific illness. Smoking is a “marker” for an array of lifestyle choices that, in the aggregate, shorten lifespans."

Yeah, like working night shifts and overnight shifts, being in the infantry (no sleep), being a "male," etc. Insurance companies probably treat feces-eaters as being more pleasant to work with and less of a claims risk than smokers.
