Law enforcement in the city said that they found what they believed were five additional, undetonated explosive devices around the Boston area. The additional devices were uncovered as police frantically inspected all suspicious packages, many left behind as runners and pedestrians rushed away from the scene in the aftermath of the blasts.

7? Like the number of Planet of the Apes movies that have been released?

Or perhaps it signifies the 7th voyage of Sinbad. A bad sinner could have symbolism for someone who opposes same sex marriage.

Riddle me this!

Why does New York go on high alert for terror that occurred in Boston?

Because New York City is the capitol of the nation for everything except federal.

Lose NYC and you lose all television networks. Hollywood may make the movies but without NYC they will not be shown.

Maybe the suspect(s) lived in NYC?

7! That means no connection to the number of albums released with Roman numerals by the band CHICAGO.

One of the first things done was to shut down cell phone service in the area.

That turned out NOT to be true.

Is this really necessary? I live in NYC and everyone here is horrified about what happened in Boston today.

Only two out of seven went off.

There almost certainly weren't 7 bombs - the Daily Mail was just parroting a Wall Street Journal report that turned out to be probably untrue.

"Counterterrorism officials found five additional suspect devices around the Boston area on Monday, but a law-enforcement official later said closer examinations led them to doubt that they were bombs. An earlier version of this article cited people briefed on the investigation saying officials believed they were undetonated explosive devices."

There is to be established a national registry and background checks for ALL bomb makers

Ayers says he's guilty as sin, yet free as a bird.

The media completely blacked out any mention of the 40th anniversary of his bombing of the Pentagon last year.

It was reported that hospitals are taking out ball bearings. In one report on terrorist bomb making, here is a description on the subject of ball bearings:

The most widely used and the most dangerous shrapnel consists of ball bearings 3-7 millimeters in diameter. In the most severe terrorist acts – in the Delfinarium, Sbarro, in the banquet hall in Netania – the bombs of the suicide-bombers were filled with steel balls.

The Israelis have suffered for years from these extremist Islamic savages.

The use of ball bearings in explosive devices is hardly some recent profound innovation, or some sort of signature unique to certain types of bombmakers.

Respectful answer: If 3,000 people had been incinerated by terrorists in my neighborhood, I’d want my city to be on guard today, as well. NYC has a lot of security that won’t be requested for duty in Boston. It would be a scandal if something happened, and they were not on alert. Thank you.

Just two days ago I was very aware of this effect, being in an area of very low cell service demand save for a dozen days a year when demand just plain swamps the towers. My phone drained the battery fast just trying to maintain a basic connection and determine location; well before it died I gave up using it for inability to even log in to the Find My Friends app for more than 2 seconds at best, and it thrashing between LTE, 4G, Edge, and no service. ...and that was without the teeming horde panicking & calling 911 and friends and uploading videos and...

Not really. Some are pros, some are just silly sods being funneled into AQ’s “lone wolf program”, usually given a bit of online training, or hands-on training at almost any mosque.
