A Seattle police official quickly scotched a suggestion earlier this year that citizens with concealed pistol licenses be monitored; just one revelation about how Mayor Mike McGinns staff feels toward gun owners that has emerged from e-mails obtained by the Second Amendment Foundation under a Public Records Act request.
In addition one e-mail expressed the opinion that the National Rifle Association is an organization that does dirty work for the firearms industry, and another suggested that inquiries from Second Amendment activists should be ignored.
SAF had asked for all records related to the recently-launched Gun Safety Initiative and the Jan. 26 Seattle gun buy back. Members of the mayors staff did not respond to calls and e-mail requests for comment.
The SAF records request was for e-mails and documents related to the citys gun buyback program, which came in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy.
One person who did respond to a joint inquiry from Examiner and The Gun Mag (TGM) was Seattles new interim Police Chief Jim Pugel, who explained that a cautionary Jan. 25 message he sent to McGinns Chief of Staff Julie McCoy and Public Affairs Director Beth Hester, was in response to what may have begun as an inquiry from a constituent.
The inquiry or suggestion apparently had to do with police monitoring of citizens with concealed pistol licenses, an idea Pugel quickly discouraged in his e-mail.
From my recollection, he said, I dont think it incubated in the mayors office. I think it came to the mayors office.
Pugels note essentially raised a red flag about randomly checking CPL holders for no reason. He told McCoy and Hester, Lets talk more about running monthly checks on those issued CPLs, as we would be running otherwise law abiding citizens in criminal data bases...

These dang control freaks are criminals. They are breaking the law when they set out to violate people’s constitutional rights. They swear an oath to the constitution and the second amendment is quite clear whether they like it or not!
They are trying to set up innocent people. It’s not the guy with a concealed carry license he has to worry about. It’s the guy carrying the gun with no license. But he wants to harm the good guy! Because he thinks he is above the rule of law.
Mike McGinn, like his predecessor Greg Nichols, is just another fat stupid liberal who thinks Seattle ought to be able to pass ordinances that trump state law.
Both have tried to ban guns in almost every public place you can think of, and have been slapped down repeatedly. Years ago, Washington had a patchwork of local gun laws, such that one could never know, when passing from one jurisdiction to the next, if they were breaking the law. Now, the state sets the law and cities and counties enforce it uniformly across the state, as it should be. I can’t imagine why anyone would want a mess like NY here in Washington.
I will say that one thing is different about Mayor McGinn. He’s the first mayor to look and dress like a hobo.
“Its the guy carrying the gun with no license.” I’m not licensed. Open carry or concealed at all times. Afoot or in my vehicle. Sometimes two at a time. Depends. Amendment II. A blessing. Of course I am a citizen in good standing. I don’t know a single soul in power who allows me to do what I do. I’m just a normal everyday law abiding citizen who is not a beneficiary of any special favors.
Say. Where is this place that requires kissing somebody’s nether region before they can exercise a God given right?
Maybe the good mayor ought to be watchin’ for moslum bombers and not worrying ‘bout us law abiding gun owners.
